I was amazed to look out from the observation deck at my hotel and see a wedding taking place inthe middle of the only lush green space around that was probably free to use…the huge round-about in front of the pyramids. the photo is unedited and I love the light on the pyramid most of all, but the wedding at the front adds interest and give the viewer an idea of the scale of the pyramid, which is probably a kilometre away from the hotel. what the photo doesn’t show is the noise…the honking horns and revving engines, the dust and smell and heat of Egypt in September…but our hotel smelled like hibiscus flowers…and I didn’t even know they had a smell!

This photo was taken in my last trip to Egypt “cairo”. This is a historical mosque belongs to Mohammed-ali-basha. This mosque is located in “The Citadel/ Al-Qalaa” which was built by Salah Ad-Din during 1176. The Citadel is one of the most popular sightseeing in Cairo Egypt and one of the most visited areas in the city. It is now the museum that offers the best collections and impressive views of Cairo. / ___________ Featured in the featured art gallery. Featured in the group Islamic Beauty. ______

The last of the three major pyramids at Giza is the pyramid for Pharaoh Menkaure. After this, the building of pyramids at the Giza plateau stopped – in fact, it’s believed this pyramid was completed after the Pharaoh’s death. From this vantage point, the pyramid seems lost and alone against the backdrop of the land and sky. It’s amazing to bear witness to the works of men who lived and died, like we all will, 4,000 years ago. /

The pyramids and the enigmatic Sphinx have been visited for thousands of years, literally. The pyramid on the right (relative to the viewer) is the pyramid of Pharaoh Khafre. The best guess at this time is that the face of the Sphinx was his. It’s believed the clearing of land for his pyramid exposed the large rock the Sphinx was carved from. This was done to decorate what would have otherwise been an otherwise ordinary rock near his pyramid. To the left, appearing quite small here, is the last pyramid constructed at Giza, the tomb of Menkaure. More from Egypt

The strange morality of the expatriates. This happened in Cairo in 1985. I hope I would do it differently now.

The Giza Plateau sits majestically on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt, a silent guardian to this area of nearly 18,000,000 people. In this shot that I took while visiting in October of 2007, the Great Pyramid of Khufu sits on the far left, the pyramid of Khafre sits in the middle (it’s original limestone casing still visible near the top), and the smaller pyramid of Menkaure lies on the right. The neverending sprawl of Cairo can be seen in the background. Though “The Great Pyramid” of Khufu is the largest of the three, Khafre’s pyramid actually seems larger when you are there, due to it’s construction on a higher elevation and the steeper angle of the pyramid itself. All three of the pyramids are astronomically aligned to be north-south, east-west… down to the smallest fraction of a degree.

My cat, Cairo.

Cairo loves cars, he dreams about them nearly every night. Like many four year olds, he is scared of monsters, so I invented the car angel. The car angel flys and drives around everywhere Cairo goes, chasing away any monsters and visits him in his dreams. This piece was created with pastels and a child like imagination.
