OK, OK – I’ve held off for as long as I can….. Combining my love of industrial landscapes and my awesome 1957 Cadillac Coupe DeVille, I just couldn’t resist combining the two, so I re visited my favourite location, Sommerville Street, Sunshine and set up the new shot. Here the 57 Cadillac showcases the beautiful angles of the wrap around back windscreen and customised fins in natural light. I love the austere, clinical design feeling this image evokes. To me it’s pure design in all aspects of landscape through to automotive design.

LIMITED EDITION FRAMED PRINTS / On sale 6th October 2008 – 10 prints only I created this artwork for the Extra Cheeese group show in Sydney this weekend. The theme was re-use…I found an old wooden wine box at Salvos and made it into a lightbox. This was printed onto acrylic, which slides between two J-frames (allowing access to change the lightbulb). The show wraps up on Sunday 5th Oct – so go check it out if you are in the area. This was snapped up before the show opened – so you can only get a copy here! Flyer / Extra Cheeese Photos from the opening will be posted on 2threads soon and I’ll post a link of the artwork lit up in the gallery. To create this I reference photos – reducing the contrast down and then outlining by hand. Everything then gets coloured in Photoshop. You might notice some of my old artwork in there as tattoos. And yes, that is Kat von D – I love her style!

maybe it’s something that a lotta people outside America don’t understand….how we have this romance with the automobile. We view it as a gateaway to the wide open highway, elegance and freedom, able to take us anywhere we wish to go….leaving the stress and daily rat race behind us. It is even more prevailing in classic cars. The reflection on the past, when elegance, romance, style, and a simple life is what it equates. And speaking of romance, style and elegance, the Cadillac had all that. This is a 1949 model….and I wish it was mine. I wish I could just get in it and drive, westward California. Yeah romance the American way… / Thoughts welcomed! —-John —-—-—-—-—-—-— / More of my work can be seen on my website at http://jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. Cadillac Mountain, in Acadia Nationl Park, Maine, has a “strawberry” color to the limestone that gives the mountain a pinkish color, as you can see from the photo.

1932 Cadillac V16 Fleetwood. Yes, that’s 16 (sixteen) cylinders. 165 horsepower, just a little over 10 hp per cylinder. My guess is that fuel mileage didn’t really matter.
