Along our cool and windy hike down to the rocky coastline at the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse, on the Mendocino coast of California, we encountered several deer, two bucks kept coming up the trail towards us, walking slowly at first, then prancing, leaping and jumping, and just as I thought we might have to ward them off with our tripods in hand… the one in front threw his head back, gave the air a big sniff, and veered off away from us… thankfully… LOL…. we also encountered 2 does, a young spike, and a mother with two fawns… it’s such a beautiful hike down to the point where the lighthouse stands… lots of wildflowers to enjoy… and you could also hear the seals off in the distance…. There were so many wonderful angles to this lighthouse also, it was rather hard to pick just ONE image that was a favorite…. The area where the lighthouse stands was actually surveyed in 1873, but construction did not begin until after the 1906 earthquake. The lens was illuminated for the first time on June 10, 1909….

These are the tide pools at Cabrillo Point in San Diego, CA. I sometimes travel with my husband on his business trips. We stayed on Shelter Island for a conference my husband, JP, was attending. While my JP attended his meetings during the day – I took photos. San Diego is a beautiful area.

this shot was taken in san pedro ca, used my 45-150mm zoom lens shot it at 1/1000s ,f/11 100iso with a circular polarizer lens. did minor brightness/contrast in photoshop.

This rendering of Point Cabrillo Lighthouse was done soley with the Microsoft “Paintbrush” program. It was my intent to demonstrate just how versatile that simple program really is for the digital artist.

Point Cabrillo is a landmark as well as a mariners’ beacon. This beautiful old lighthouse has been completely restored to her full glory. This painting was done entirely with digital means using Paintbrush and Photoshop to add highlights and details. While it is digital it is 100% original. It is not a manipulated photograph or a scanned work. I painted every detail.
