In 1971 Congress passed the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act which settled land and financial claims and provided for the establishment of 13 Alaska Native Regional Corporations to administer those claims. Similar to the status of the Canadian Inuit and First Nations, which are recognized as distinct peoples, Alaska Natives are in some respects treated separately from Native Americans in the United States. • This image was the Monochrome challenge winner in the West Virginia group challenge on March 16, 2009. On March 16, 2009 this image was featured in the West Virginia group. On July 12, 2009 this image was featured in The Heartland group. The Brinegar Cabin at Milepost 258 on the Blue Ridge Parkway in West Virginia. The Brinegar Cabin is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This cabin was originally settled by Martin Brinegar in 1885. His wife, Caroline, brought along her mother’s four-poster weaving loom, which is still located on the site. The Brinegars occupied the cabin until 1935 when the land was purchased for construction of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The cabin was preserved, along with Mrs. Brinegar’s 100+ year old loom which is used for craft and weaving demonstrations during the summer months. Guided nature walks and discussions, led by park rangers, are also available. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Please don’t copy or download this image. • I was out driving around the area yesterday and I spotted this cabin, I thought it must have been abandoned and derelict but I was so wrong..someone is actually living there there was flowers on the sill. It has either been here for ever or someone has planted in situ I really don’t know.. but it was so interesting because it was definitely original. The entire yard looked like a garbage heap with old abandoned trucks and machinery to me, it was Aladdins Cave.. Best viewed larger so you can see what is hanging on the outside walls. / Picture taken outside Mt Gilead Ohio. / /

  • A lot of people wouldn’t connect Winter with love and romance, however, our couple is very active and the idea of winter recreation, such as cross country sking, followed up by a warm crackling fire, sounded like just the thing. / In the Fall, our young man popped the marriage question and they decided on a Winter marriage right before Christmas. They had a wonderful church wedding, followed by a great reception, surrounded by their friends. This is their honeymoon spot. They found a small cabin, located in the mountains, to rent. It had all of the ambiance that they needed for a memorable honeymoon. The first night that they stayed in the cabin, it snowed. How beautiful it was, the morning of their first day of married life. The snow sparkled in the sunlight and they went out for some cross country sking. By late afternoon they were tired enough to retire by the fire. They had a late evening repast that they had brought with them, a full picnic type dinner with wine and a delicious chocolate desert. How thrilled they were to find that the moon had come out and it was full. What a wonderful day they had, the moonlit night just seemed like a perfect ending to it. After all maybe that is why it is called a “Honey Moon”........ Sorry I couldn’t resist! I hope that you have enjoyed my little story. Such as it could be, if 2 unattached people, who loved photography, found one another. It all could start at a stream in Spring time and end up under the moon light, in a cabin, by a lake, in the Winter. Thanks to all who viewed my images and read my little story. I appreciate your support and encouragement. Original background image taken in Shady Cove, Oregon. / The cabin is one that I had painted into a winter painting. It was added as a composite, along with the moon. The flood filter was added to create the lake.

  • I hope you can enjoy the rustic view which exists in this shot I took of our camp house in Mineola! Thanks so much for viewing my portfolio! I appreciate your interest in my work! Smiles Leilani
