This small rock pool is found in Cabbage Tree Bay, along the pathway between Manly and Shelly Beach on Sydney’s northern beaches. The sculpture/statue is known as The Oceanids. This image was a 30 second exposure nearly an hour before sunrise with the pool wall and sculpture lit up by a nearby street light. This image has also won a photo of the week at photographer Steve Parish’s Photograph Australia website.

Acrylics on canvas. ’..... And the price of cabbages!’ Conversations on the street between neighbours, perhaps school mates or old friends. In this picture I try to reflect life’s paths, choices taken, fate.

This shirt used to come with a saying that was familiar in my family – I’m not as green as I’m cabbage looking., but with time I’ve come to like my cabbage friend without the words. I can’t explain why he’s my favourite cabbage, but maybe it’s because he’s what you’d get if you crossed Oscar the Grouch with a brassica? Also available as a Greeting Card

As I lie here in my bed at night and listen to my wife sleep I think about what’s out my door and farther down the street and across these dark blue waters! / And as I toss and turn around these thoughts just keep on coming, and I ask myself why in the world can’t someone end all this drama! / Look at our green Earth so blue with so much power and inside its blue hemisphere are men with too much power! / Who are these men who make the rules and create so much havoc while we sleep in our beds late in to the night. / These men they spin a web so deep and dark to make our lives a mess and then they say they’ve done it all its for all the best! / I lay in bed so all alone wondering what this is all about, as different country’s continue to fight and kill off one another! / What is it that they feed to us on all the local channels? To make us afraid to walk out the door as we hate one another? / Can this be true all that they say it makes me really wonder! / Why is it that all of a sudden were running out of food, and all the water that we have is now not good to use! / Why is it that we don’t have food for all when there is plenty of green land ? / And in every country thats starving there’s seems to be a corrupt man! / And why is it that the country’s that have all that they could want maybe travel to them distant lands that need a little helping hand! / And as I lie here in my bed I wonder what its all about, could this simply be away to kill and starve them all out? / Why is it here in the United States we have more things than the most? / And in Africa people live in tiny huts an drink water thats not fit for goats? / Tell me why is this great continent sitting there with no ones help? / As the other favorite Nations eat off of fine white dinner plates? And tell of lies of who their helping its all such a big disgrace! / And then they look at Africa as if its got a rare disease, who really is the sick one can you tell me please? / What little secret is this spinner not really telling us? Besides all the local chatter thats designed to distract us! / There’s not a place on this green earth that greed can not be found even honest men it looks to me can even be corrupted. / What is it in big government that makes them break their promise and beat us down in to the ground until were all broke and busted! / And if its not the ones in power then who’s the real puppet master? / So as I lie here deep in thought I wonder this tonight as my wife sleeps in distant places and my mind thinks the worse thoughts, I close my eyes and say a payer to someone up above… “Oh God if you can hear me I’d really love some peace!” /

This is actually a photograph of a cabbage rose! it’s a HUGE version of a ‘rose’ =P it’s size is as big as a 5 year old child’s face. And the stalk is REALLY thick! ...like the size of the bottom of a broccoli – 1.5 inches across in diameter! I actually think this is a lovely lovely flower, like a big buff version of a rose with a different kind of beauty- not as fragile but still very exotic… although I cannot imagine any guy handing this to his girlfriend! =P Alright I’m beginning to laugh at myself! I hope you like this, and it helps to cheer you up too =P Enjoy it’s beauty!

Abstract macro shot of red cabbage – love the colour and curves, but I hate the smell! Shouldn’t something this gorgeous smell more like heaven?

1 John 4:19 / We Love Because He First Loved Us. * / I think that is a such a lovely reminder especially as Valentines Day approaches. If you’re wondering, yes, this is a little different take on my beloved cabbage rose. =P But as I think of it, the love that God shows us – it’s almost like Him giving us each a cabbage rose instead of the normal roses that we give and receive on valentines day. His love is often at first encounter – hard to accept because it is so ‘uncoventional’, so unconditional too. It is a love that is so profound and never-changing that will not wither… So as Valentines Day is also a time to show our loved ones some appreciation, perhaps it is also a good reminder that we think about His love!
