  • Taxi rushing trough the streets of NYC.

  • A New York cab crosses the Brooklyn bridge – Manhattan bound.

  • December 2002 and as we stepped from the hotel doorway onto 5th Avenue, snow began to fall. Incredible and our first time in New York City. / This photo was one of many. I’ve been to a few cities around the world and for me New York is a black and white city. It’s possible to get away with not taking any colour photos. The fact that this was a colour photo was perfect. From an iconic, big apple perspective, what better than yellow cabs on a black and white setting! Say no more.

  • The reflection caught my eye and held it.

  • Looks familiar? Yes – it’s the famous “For Hire” sign from the famous black London cabs. This was taken pre-dawn – and through a window. I reckoned that by using an asymmetrical composition and by utilising the darkness, I could actually highlight the subtle glow further up on the metal, with the interior light reflected off the top of the meter. Yes, it’s an Austin, a genuine London black cab – but the shot was taken in Melbourne, Australia, during “Britain Day” festivities at The Langham hotel, on 2 June 2009. I do not crop., enhance or post-edit my work in any way. Taken with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F5.6, 1/20 sec, ISO 800, focal length 125mm. Featured in SIGNS, SIGNS, EVERYWHERE SIGNS, July 09. 115 – 7178
