  A little while ago I promised I’d have some more news on our calendar dreaming soon – We’re not 100% there yet, still fiddling around with the final printing stock, size, ordering hanger material etc BUT it’s really close … I’ve made some calendars that everyone I show them to like, including some real life users ! So there’s good news, bad news and we need your help. / / The Good: We are looking at a 13 page, A3 sized 300 GSM calendar, wire bound for about $18USD ($20AUD) – Plus a dash of postage. They feel heavy and look nice. The Bad: Christmas is coming and we have too much to do – But, if there is enough demand “we’ll” ( read Justin ) will try and find a way to squeeze them in somehow. The Help: So what I’d ask you guys to do is help us by answering a couple of questions (in the comments or via BubbleMail to me is fine) 1) How many calendars as described above would you buy of your own work to sell or give away ? / 2) How many calendars would you buy from other artists to keep or give as gifts if they were available ? / 3) How many ‘best of RedBubble category’ style calendars would you buy if they were available ? / 4) What’s of most interest – 1, 2 or 3. Ultimately I think we will do 1, 2 and 3 – But for this year we might have to compromise and I want to make sure we make the right choice to keep as many of you guys happy as we can ! James

  Well I finally have done what I have been wanting to do for a long time. I purchased a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTI 10.1 MP. I have been wanting a full Digital SLR camera for a very long time. It is my very first one. I currently own the Canon Powershot S3 but it was limiting me way to much. / I also purchased a killer lens. / The Sigma Zoom Telephoto 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro Autofocus Lens So hopefully soon I will be uploading some new work. Sorry to say I have not bought the IR filter yet. / Also on Friday I am beginning my first class as a member of / The Cleveland Photographic Society Its a class that meets every week for learning and competitions. / Also do field trips. I would like to thank everyone on this site for inspiring me to get more involved with Photography.

  Today is the love of my life’s birthday!!! He is turning 30 years old!!! To help celebrate, I have decided to buy him some t-shirts – one of my own and one from another lucky Red Bubblian. So, without further adieu, I present the Greg’s Birthday Contest!!!!!! From now until October 1st anyone can submit a t-shirt design to this contest by adding a comment below. Here are the rules: The design must be on a t-shirt. The design should be tagged with GregBday08 (please tag your work if you want to have it considered, because we will be using this tag to browse the entries). You should place a link to your work in the comments section below. A simple link will do, but a photo link will be even better (brownie points!). There are no requirements for theme, style, or color (just make sure it follows standard Red Bubble Guidelines). You may want to read the below, short list of his likes to get an idea of things that will catch our eyes. Designs should be your original work and all sources should be cited appropriately. If it is one thing I abhor, it is designers who use images or other material from the internet and then do not give proper credit. So, please give credit where credit is due.   Well, more of an impulse timing for the purchase, as I’ve wanted one ever since they’ve existed. Not to imply I haven’t loved my D70, as it’s been one of the best things I’ve ever owned. The D80 is set up, and the battery is charging as I write, so I haven’t had a play yet. Update: / Definately had time to have a play now, and really enjoying the D80 (got a few images up from it now). My D70 is being adopted into a happy home, so I’m sure that will work out well for all of us :)

  A big thank you to Karin who has just purchased the Personalized Chinese Chop I designed for her. It can be viewed here / I have been delighted by the strong interest these have generated, and have made them for quite a few people now. / If you get me to design one for you, it will include your initials, and Chinese characters that represent one of your strong passions. / What can you do with your own “Chop”? / You may have noticed that Chinese art and or calligraphy, frequently have on them a red chop that is effectively the artist’s signature, and cannot be used by any one else. / When I was in China recently, I observed several artists doing this and resolved to design one for myself. / This I converted, on my Photoshop program, into a customized vector shape that I can place at the bottom of any photograph etc. This seems to have captured the interest of a number of RedBubblers, who are now the proud owners of chops of their own. / MARKETING: / I decided to not charge for the designing – instead, people are invited to purchase cards or wall hangings of their chop (provided of course that they are happy enough with the result), or, for that matter of course, any of the other published chops that appeal calligraphically. / REQUESTING ONE FOR YOURSELF: / If you would like a personalized Chinese-Style Chop designed especially for you, here is the procedure to follow. / 1/ Bubblemail me with the request. / 2/ Include all of your initials. / 3/ Tell me a few of your strongly held passions. / I will promptly create and publish your chop (in both 2D and 3D). What you do then is entirely up to you – if you like it, and are so inclined, purchase wall hangings or a number of cards. This will be my reimbursement for labor and creativity.
