I went walking up in the Lake district in Cumbria this weekend, its such an amazing place – old, green and brown with a hint of the shire. / Safe to say that it was cloudy the whole time and when we left the sun shined! / typical… / anyway i still managed to get some good results

Taken from the shores of Buttermere on a glorious Saturday afternoon on a Canon EOS 40D with Canon EF-S 10-22mm at 10mm. Exposures were at f/8 with speeds of 1/30s, 1/60s and 1/125s. I tried to capture the scene with just a single exposure, but the range of tones was just oo great so out came my trusty tripod and I set up my 40D on a 2-second timer, auto-bracketing +/- 1 stop. The sun was on my right and the sky was a very bright blue so a circular polariser was used to bring it back down. Three exposures were taken in RAW format and blended in Photomatix. Photoshop CS3 was then used to recover some cloud detail, lighten the sky and foreground.

This panoramic was taken on the 2nd November 2008 from the top of Haystacks almost 600m above sea level. It had taken hours to climb (with many photo stops along the way), my camera was almost destroyed along the way, it was freezing (literally) and very windy. But… It was beautiful.
