Photographic based digital montage 2007 (1 from series of 6 – redesigned from 2004/5 Japanese Series) I shot the tree, flowers, roses, birds, combined them in P/S with drawn elements & filtered the lot. Approximately 50 Photoshop layers. The lot 60×60cms are printed on canvas gracing the walls of my home.

I am in the process of updating my profile page. As part of this process I also wished to make a change to my Avatar and so asked my youngest son, Alex (16), if he could design me one. Alex’s current creative genre is designing body art/ tattoos. / The only stipulations I gave Alex were to include my fav colour combinations of black and orange, and that his illustration should somehow represent my love for nature. / This is what gave me. My entry into the Challenge Cafe 4 “The Butterfly Effect” / Excerpt from the Oregonian / December 12, 2007. / Three weeks ago, Oregon and Washington suffered two back to back storms that caused massive flooding and wind damage from hurricane force winds. Today the DA’s office in Portland,Oregon received an anonymous tip that lead to the arrest of a suspect in the cause of these two storms. / The suspect is a Monarch butterfly, from Puerto Rico, visiting relatives in the Portland area. The suspects family had no comment although the lawyer for the butterfly has entered a plea of insanity based on the fact that he was drunk on nector at the time. “He had no idea about the consequences of his actions at the time he beat his wings”. / The defense is basing their sole argument around the “Butterfly Effect”. The case has caused a raging debate across the nation on the use of an “Insanity Plea” for such a heinous incident. / Arraignment is scheduled for Friday. The butterfly is under “garden” arrest, pending further investigation.

Here’s a little quick collab between myself and Jon of jdmphotography here on the bubble.. I had a little trouble getting the swallowtail to not ‘fall apart’ on me after blowing it up that large, but all in all, I think he looks just swell on my bright sunset background with the moon (of course). Thanks so much Jon, for the ‘loan’ of your gorgeous swallowtail… Effects I used in this very fast, 6 layer creation: Aetherize, Wavy Colour, Flood. More SIPIYU work. It was originally just going to be the one, but I kept messing with it and it became more graphical, which I really like. I incorporated the working logo into the middle design. Butterfly Effect: A cumulatively large effect that a very small natural force may produce over a period of time.

An entry for the Challenge cafe competion “The butterfly effect” At our most basic level; humans are built, controlled and maintained by the genetic code DNA. / It’s what makes us individual and gives all of us unique characteristics. / However, what happens when there is an alteration in a tiny portion of the sequence ….as tiny as a single letter being replaced for another? The effects of a mutation at this cellular stage can be positive or negative but the outcome will resonate throughout the individual’s entire life and ultimately the generations that follow. When you read all about the chaos theory and the “Butterfly Effect” and then watch a programme about insects and how they would be the only likely survivors of a global catastrosphe on an apocolyptic scale, it kinda gets you thinking… I could be wrong, but I believe that there could be some evil plan afoot… I say stamp them out now before it’s too late! Their “oh so pretty” colourful wings and cute little curly proboscis’ are obviously just a front for the evil that lurks within.. I mean, come on we’ve all seen the ugly, squishy little catterpilars that they spring from! No amount of hiding away in a chrysalis to apply a bit of slap is gonna fool me anymore… I’m wise to them now! Oh bugger, there goes one of the critters now… Challenge Cafe Entry / Kind of a twist on the “Butterfly Effect” or what might happen after.. Something tiny springing from something huge… it’s a regular occurence in nature that devastation will bring new life to a desolate area.

I thought this most accurately visualizes the Butterfly Effect. If a butterfly flaps its wings as the bottom of the globe, will a tornado form (center) or a tsunami occur (top). This was created using Chaoscope, and a Lorenz equation was used.
