Happy Birthday to me / Happy Birthday to meeeeee / Happy Birthday to me / Hip Hip Hooray / Hip Hip Hooray / Hip Hip Hooray I turn 34 today… This birthday was always going to be hard to celebrate without Axel…soooo my family pulled together and organised a massive event for me…a WHOLE weekend away of fun and frivolity at a gorgeous beach house on the north coast. As a family we are mad Life of Brian fans so the whole weekend was themed around Brian. The women wore beards – there was even an attempted stoning (no one was hurt), we watched the movie and even had a 1970’s script on hand for quoting! I received some gorgeous presents and most of all had a birthday I am NEVER going to forget. What YOU at RedBubblehave all given me for my birthday… 40,000 views! Butterfly Kisses on Page 3 of the all time most popular images AND too many friends to count… Thank you all so much Sare
I have had heaps of people ask me how I put together my Eye Series… !http://images-0.redbubble.com/img/art/size:small/view:main/81…
I have had heaps of people ask me how I put together my Eye Series… So I thought I would let you all in on the secret… Desaturate… First of all I add a new layer in PS above the original and fill with black then change the blend mode to colour. To bring out the eyes… Add a mask to the black layer and with a small soft brush (set to black) delete the parts you want in colour. Using the lasso tool (with a small amount of feather say 5px) on the original layer select the eyes (hold down the shift key to select both eyes). Then apply the Unsharp Mask – play with the settings until you get the effect you want – don’t over sharpen or they will look weird. Then play with the saturation and contrast until you get exactly the colour you want. This effect only works really well with light eyes (brown eyes don’t come out as well) – BUT if you want to get really tricky you can apply a layer in between the black layer and original layer, then fill with a blue colour and change the blend mode to colour and hey presto a blue eye!! Butterflies… I change the colours of the butterflies to suit each image by going to Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation and playing with the hue until I get the colour I want. Crocodile Tears… The eye in Crocodile Tears wascreated by finding a stock image of a crocodile and copying its eye and placing it under Ty’s eye, after erasing the area that was his eye! There was then lots of adjusting to get it to fit correctly and getting the colour right. Hope this makes sense – if there are any other questions feel free to bubblemail me!

It’s not easy to pull off ‘sweet but sinister’... / Unless you’re Liesl Yvette Wilson that is. ;o) / This shirt in particular, and this one / / is what inspired me this week, but also the general scampiness of Liesl’s Tullulah. break out your evil grins folks, and smile with me ;o) So, what can you tell us about Tullulah? Is she based on anyone? What’s the story? What are the books you’re working on and when/where can we see them? Hmmmmm….Well as so often is the case, I don’t know where Tullulah came from, she kinda just showed up one day…she didn’t even bring any treats with her, not even a jar of Marmite, Tulluala’s really rude that way…at least Paddington brought his own suitcase. But no, she just landed on me…I’ve had to look after her ever since and it hasn’t been easy, cos she is such a little freak. Tullulah is a little bit me, a little bit my niece. I wrote a kid’s story called “Around the Corner and on the Left”, it was a quirky little piece about a kid that lived in a creepy house and was always fleeing from spooky things. My niece who was about five at the time, posed for the illustrations. She had her hair in bunches and it looked really cute. Much later when I was just tinkering around, with a simple character design for a grown-up fairy story, I worked from the basic illos of my niece…. And suddenly ‘T’ appeared. / There are quite a few stories featuring Tullulah, which is why she is so arrogant! The first to be printed is more for grandma and kiddies, unfortunately for all you ghouls out there. It is called a balloon and a bear. Printing is being organised and hopefully by the time my website is up and running, they will be ready to go! What were some of your favourite kids books growing up, and now? Wow, I have sooooo many fav books. As a very little kid I liked “Bread and Jam for Francis” and I have no idea who wrote that! I also loved Maurice Sendak ( Where the Wild Things Are.) Anything with beautiful illustrations, Richard Scarey etc. When I could read properly I loved “The Famous Five” and I still do…all that adventure and running unsupervised around the moors chased by circus people and jewel thieves, how could you not like it? What really influenced me was Alan Garner (“The Owl Service”,”Elidor”, “Red Shift”) I loved how weird it was and how not everything made sense, leaving you going “Hmmmmm, what was that about?”. What prompted the move from Aus to the UK? What are the differences? I moved here from Oz about five years ago…I had always wanted to try living in the UK and although it was really difficult, I’m glad that I have. It is a huge community of artistic people and it seems like everyone is an actor, writer, poet, singer. Amazing! I had sold work pretty consistently in Australia but it was usually wildlife photorealistic stuff and I couldn’t seem to break out of that with any real success, so I thought a move might just do that. If we took two cute furry animals, and cross bred them, which ones would they be, and what would we end up with? Well my absolute favourite animal is a ring-tailed lemur and I also love gliders, probably flying foxes would be the fav (yes I know they smell but so would you if you had to pee whilst hanging upside down! There is a bit of a design flaw there…) So I guess my little animal would be a lemur that could fly….how completely cool! How did you find the bubble? What made you join and stick around? Do you know what? I can’t remember how I found Red Bubble, I think I was just looking for artists and writer’s communities…I really don’t remember… What’s your favouritest tshirt you’ve ever worn? HmmmI don’t know about the fav shirt….I did have one that had a pig on it and it said…”Piggy Wiggy – Don’t eat me I’m a friendly animal!” I used to wear that to BBQs. What did you want to be when you were 6 years old? When I was six I wanted to be a writer…or a gymnastics instructor… What are you most proud of? I don’t know what I’m most proud of…I don’t really think that way…If I had to pick something I would say that I don’t give up easily. What are your minor and major goals right now? My major goals would be to sell Tullulah books online, and prove it can be done! I would love to work at my art and writing full time, but I am realistic about the possibilities of that – still every one needs a dream to motivate them! What do you think the world would be like if children were running things instead of the politicians? It depends how old the kids are…if they were all three year olds the world would be one big Baskin and Robbins! Better go buy some shares in sprinkles. Thanks Liesl! Don’t forget to come back next week, folks, for our next victim, but in the meantime, here’s some more art Liesl graciously supplied, just ‘cos I think it’s aces! :oD Caanan. http://www.philadelphia33.org/ Jesus He called my name. For all who are Christian, those who have been born again and received Jesus as lord and Saviour, there was a time when you heard Jesus Call your name. A time when you knew that The Lord loved you and wanted your heart. This is what I mean when I say He called my name. for those who have read my personal testimony, you will know that he called my name. When I was a chronic Alcoholic, gambler and one who practiced witchcraft. *. Due to the requests of friends I have met via Redbubble, I have decided to share with you, how the lord called me to serve him in Africa. A call to service. [As the Lord lives and is true and holy, I certify that what you are about to read is a true account of how Jesus called me into Missionary Service. This is still as fresh in my memory today as it was when this incredible event took place in my life] On Friday 26th August 1994, I was troubled in my spirit all day. I sat and watched Television and read a book, but yet I felt God wanted to speak to me, but I did not know what he wanted. So my wife said to me that I should just go to the park and pray. It was 6.05pm in the evening when I arrived at the park, and I parked my car and started to walk around the park. / I was walking and looking at the swans on the pond and praying at the same time. Then with not warning at all, I became aware that someone was walking close behind me. I did not look back, but knew someone was behind me. I continued walking along a narrow footpath and as I did I felt a person’s hand holding mine. There was no fear or indeed any desire to look to see who this was that was holding my right hand. / It was very strange looking back now to why I did not want to see who it was. This would have been anyone’s reaction at the time. I felt warm and at peace, not knowing that It was *Jesus who was the one actually holding my hand. I was Praying in the Spirit [speaking to God in the gift of tongues]. Then Jesus said my name, Trevor. It was the softness and Love in his voice that caused me to look and as I say my Masters face, I knew that It was him. He did not need to tell me it was Jesus. When Jesus comes to you my friend, you won’t need any introduction or explanation, for you will know it is the King of kings that has called your name. In an instant tears my friend flowed down my face, and I was crying like I have never cried before. My emotions were overwhelmed with sadness and sorrow, because his eyes were filled with tears also and he was quietly weeping. Here was my Jesus holding my hand and he was crying. I could not understand why I was not jubilant with Joy. His sorrow pierced my very fibre of my being. By now, I was transported away from all consciousness of being in the park on a bright summer evening and we were in a dark place. The Only way I can describe this pace is to use a well as an example. Imagine a deep round stone well, empty, and you are at the bottom of it. It is very round and very wide. So can hardly see the other side of it, and you can just make out the huge stones that form the round sides of it. It’s dark at the bottom and you cannot see any light, except the light that emanates from Jesus Garments. This is how it seemed at that point. As I Gazed into his face, he spoke these words to me. / “Trevor, My Son, I want to show you something, do not be afraid my son for I am with you”. There was a short silence as these words took hold of me. He gently squeezed my hand and began to walk forward in this dark place. As we went forward, he was still weeping, and I could hear voices in the distance and different kinds of noises, like doors opening and closing, and A smell that I had never experienced before. I was crying as the Passion and sorrow of Jesus seemed to flow into my heart. It was so hard to carry such sadness and I have never experienced this before or after. Then I began to see people at my left side and all were chained to the walls and terrible sores were all over them, and all were shouting things at Jesus. I could not make out what they were saying, but Jesus was crying and weeping. The smell was terrible and there were some that when they say him cried as well. As we went forward the light that was so white lit up the side and a little ahead. The place was so big and wide I could not see the other ends. Then he again spoke to me “Trevor my Son, Do not be afraid”. I was scared, but his words just melted away any fears I had. We then came to a place where I saw am Casket alone and as we walked pass, a man spoke and said “Jesus, Why have you let me come here?. Jesus with tears answered him and said “Judgement has been set”. Again the man shouted at him and started to explain to Jesus that he was a pastor and that all his life he served Jesus and Preached and give to those in need. Jesus said again to him, “Judgement has been set”. / / All the time Jesus was weeping and I was looking at Jesus all the time, and I never did see the man, but knew he was a man, because of his voice. Again the man pleaded with Jesus and told him many other good things he had done and as he was talking, Jesus raised his other hand and stopped the man from speaking. Then Jesus said to the man, “ I sent you warnings, I sent messengers to warn you and you did not repent, for the woman you slept with was not the wife I had given you, and you died in your sins, therefore Judgement has been set”. Jesus was very sad, and began to lead me further into this dark and cold place. Then we came to another place like a very large open place with walls so thick and wide and there were like empty prison cells all around. One cell stacked upon another and I could not see where they ended, and they were so high. Then Jesus knelt down on his knees and was now crying and I could feel his body shaking. All this time he was still holding my right hand. I stood beside him with tears flowing down my face and my heart was breaking with compassion and sadness for my Lovely Lord Jesus. I then knelt down beside him and wanted to hold him close, but I was so troubled to see My Lord cry like this. Then I asked him the only question I asked through all of this. “Lord, why are you crying, there is nobody here?. In what seemed like a long time we both cried and cried. Then still kneeling, Jesus looked deep into my eyes and said, / “This Place is prepared for all those who do not know my name”. / As I looked all around, I now could hear screams and fluttering wings and rustlings above our heads high above where we were. I saw in the darkness shadows of what I can only describe as winged demons, hellish beings flying about. Jesus was weeping so hard and as he stood up, I was still on my knees. He looked into my face and said to me “My Son, Go to Africa, to the villages and proclaim my name among the people, Go tell them who I am and that I love them, and I will be with you each step you take” Then Again suddenly, as if no time passed, I was back in the park. The first thing I became aware of was that I could not feel his hand in mine. I cried and begged him to come back again, and I remember saying Lord there is so much I want to ask you. The Holy Spirit then opened the eyes of my understanding and I realised that God had allowed me to have a vision where Jesus came and called my name. Where he had appeared to me and called me for service. I was deeply shaken and all they way back to my car, I was worshipping my lord in tongues [heavenly Language]. How I drove home, I do not know, and as I told my wife and we both just praised God and give thanks. I told my pastor the following day Saturday 27th August 1994, and the response are you sure it was Jesus. I was upset and few in the church the following day had any encouragement. So On Monday 27th August 1994 I went to my local travel agent and asked how much a ticket would be for Uganda. As a boy in School we had a visiting teacher from Uganda. I marvelled at the little round huts they lived in and the photographs she showed us was amazing. So I settled it that Uganda was the place God wanted me to go. The ticket was £530.00. I had no money so I sold my car. I was determined to get to where Jesus sent me and do what he told me to do. All this time and even now. I still see my Lord and the love in his beautiful eyes. Yes I still cry and know someday I will be with him forever. I Got the exact money from the sale of my car. It was then that the Church saw that I was committed to following my lords Commission. A Little money came in and I went to Africa on Saturday 24th September 1994. I arrived in a country where I knew nobody. I asked the taxi driver at Entebbe airport to take me to a Christian Guesthouse. He took me to marimba Guest house. That evening as I lay alone in my little room, a house girl knocked my door. She asked if I would like to attend a church. I was so happy. The following Day I who knew nobody was preaching to a Church of Over 2000 people. That evening I was speaking at Chief of Police Wedding anniversary, and in that audience were Government officials, and others. The following week I was given a small house to live in free of charge, a Vehicle and driver, and the mission to extreme poor and isolated villages was born. Since that time I have dedicated my whole life to Preaching the Gospel in remote areas of Africa, South India and have never had a salary. I have trusted and depended on God to meet my needs and that of my family. There have been and still are difficulties in rising the cost of Travel, But God always blesses me with Good people whom he has given a passion and heart to pray for these precious children and to sow financially into his work. This is how the Lord called me to service. I pray It will bless and inspire you. Thank you to all who have asked me how God called me to be a missionary without having a job to fund it. Isa 49:5 [COMMON ENGLISH BIBLE] Even before I was born, the LORD God chose me to serve him and to lead back the people So the LORD has honoured me and made me strong. Evangelist Trevor Irwin. Today as I was walking through my local shopping centre…my daughter called out to me to stop. In total I am over the exquisite torture that is shopping with a toddler and a teen (how stupid am I!!) mode, I snap “Not now Meg we’re in a hurry”. Meg tries to stop me again saying, “I can see one of your images” Now I am really cranky…why would one of my images be in the middle of a shopping centre? I turn to tell her to get on with it and am confronted with Butterfly Kisses staring out at me from about 30 different frames!! A couple of months ago Avantcard printed 20,000 postcards of Butterfly Kisses and distributed them all over Australia. When I asked the owner where she got the images from it seems that Avantcard had sent them a heap to use in their frames as promo images! They lady also said that the image I was interested in was their most popular! The one that got the most comments! How cool is that?! Good things do happen after all! Needless to say I very calmly took a photo and walked away only to do a little dance of pleasure and promptly rang everyone I could think of! Sorry about the really crap image…it was taken on my phone!

Howard told me a few weeks ago that he had submitted only my photographs to the Yorkshire Post for possible inclusion in the winter Butterfly Report which he writes. / FOUR!!!!!!! photos have been printed. I am delighted and overjoyed. Unfortunately, only the article is published on line, the images have been omitted. / Like many people, I try to get it right in the camera, but I usually don’t succeed. Since I joined RB, several people have gently steered, bullied, coaxed and encouraged me to try at least basic editing. My efforts have obviously paid off as the newspaper used my photos and not their stock images. / I thank all those who have helped my progress, your contribution is greatly appreciated. / What an end to the year, it feels wonderful. / jesika / x

Canberra is wonderful. There, I said it. It has a serious lack of streetlights, weirdly flamboyant birds, and only two martini bars…but it has the glorious Holly Ringland, and I couldn’t ask for more. I flew up to spend the Easter weekend with this magnificent woman, after she’d flown down twice to stay with me in Melbourne. There aren’t many people I’d leave out a key to my flat for, without ever having met, but when I strode up my street and saw balloons spilling out my window along with Holly’s laughter, I knew the fun had begun. This time, Canberra was ours, and we explored it with high spirits and tender livers. / Holly’s one of the most talented and dedicated writers on RB, an opinion shared by many (hush Holly, hush), so being able to see her cosy writing room where she casts her spells was wonderful. Her home tells her tales beautifully, from the abundance of butterflies to the rich fragrance of peppermint oil, and it was an honour to share it with her….after she had to break in after locking her keys inside, that is. So….......there were freaky birds to wake us and vanilla coffee to perk us up; walking through the rich copper and russet autumnal leaves reading to each other from our purchases from the secondhand bookstore (Colette for me, Plath for her); dancing to Big Mama Thornton as we tied on our stilettos and slicked on the red lip gloss; amazing Thai food washed down by vodka poured with coconut juice, the slick chunks of coconut flesh picked out with our fingers. There was a ‘sex and the city’ marathon on her bed with almonds and apples and ridiculously intrusive birds, til we were on our sides with laughter that almost cracked ribs. There were ruby red cocktails in a Russian bar where I met her fabulous boys, and the talk was vibrant, the laughter dirty, and the night flew by as rain pounded the roof. And coming home early on Easter Sunday, there was black cherry vanilla vodka and some dress ups. There was a wonderful Sunday market with butterfly necklaces, Art Nouveau prints and divine Turkish delight fudge eaten between sticky fingers, where I got to gaze at this as we traded stories: I mean, really, the woman is so amazingly photogenic that I’m astounded my camera could take it….even buying batteries she managed to look as glamorous as a fifties starlet. There was culture too; although watching her dance with Matty to 90’s classics in a crowded bar while I kicked back with a tequila coffee martini could be construed as cultural…right? We drove past Parliament House and did a roadside tour of Lake Burley Griffin, and were silenced by the majesty of the War Monument, where Holly made the perfect tour guide. And now I’m back home in Melbourne as we already plot her next trip here, and we talk about hitting Berlin together next year. Who would have thought that an internet community could bring such amazing, wondrous people into your life; friends that you just can’t imagine being without. Friends that you’d even go to Canberra for. Now that’s love! Some quotes in my little red book to finish off….. / Who’s going to ride the cockroaches now? me / Honey, I drove a troop carrier in the territory for two years Holly / That’s beautiful darling….but seriously, where are all the street lights? me / We don’t do fear Holly / I’m not trotting….but I may prowl me / Where did the dead people sex come into it? Matty / Let’s do it tomollow Holly / They’re fuckwits with anchovies on top Holly / I wear many hats me / That wasn’t my drunk fault! Holly

G’day Fellow Bubblers!! lately I’ve been thinking a lot about collaborations with other artists / writers in general and on Redbubble…. Recently Plum and I collaborated as did Moonspiral and I…both these special people approached me – as in truth I wouldn’t have thought of it – I mean who has the time to collaborate in this time starved society??!! Anyway I’ve done a totally 360 degrees turn around and now I feel that collaborating with another is so very rewarding – as what you can create together is something richer and more beautiful than what you might have come up with on your own and in this case the poetry that Moonspiral and Plum offered to me gave me so much more understanding of the pieces and added real meaning to the images I created. ‘Blue Butterfly’ is another example – I worked on this image with fellow Redbubbler Stephen Denham. I’ve had such amazing feedback on it and it is my most viewed image by a long shot….I really feel this is a key – Collaboration is the way!! If you haven’t already had the chance – be certain to check out the work of these very talented fellow bubblers: / Stephen Denham / Plum collaborated on The Rose Maiden and / Moonspiral collaborated on Eternal Flight Thanks for listening..I’ll jump off the soapbox now! Ha ha!! Happy day to all! Em :) Blue Butterfly /

Next week will see the opening of Mirrors, an art exhibition that’s about more than just pretty pictures on a gallery wall… / Supporting Melbourne based charity The Butterfly Foundation it seeks to raise funds & awareness surrounding the complex issues of Eating Disorders & Body Image. In a broader sense, it’s also very much about Expression though art & how powerful a platform art can be… whether that be through personal expression or in creating art that conveys a message or inspires others. Please visit the blog to read more about the aims Mirrors seeks to reflect. Many of you will know i’ve been heavily involved in putting together this exhibition, alongside founding Director, Rhiannon Bulley. / A large part of that has been selecting artists whose work somehow spoke to the issues we were dealing with… In the most part, artists who convey strong, positive images of beauty, inside & out. The support of artists here on Red Bubble has been phenomenal, with works coming from right around the globe… i am so grateful & i know i speak for all involved in Mirrors. Gracing the walls of the Mori Gallery will be: Karin Taylor / Karin has so generously donated the framed original of her inspirational painting, Hidden Treasure. / Cynthia Lund Torroll / A print of Cia’s latest beautiful work, And The Day Came is in the air on it’s way to Sydney as we speak! / Bec Winnel / Bec has so kindly sent us one of her sublime feminine portraits, a framed original yet to be revealed! Below is her latest stunner on RB, Silk Cocoon / Caitlin Shearer / Caitlin has created a stunning new painting especially for Mirrors, you’ll have to wait to see that one, in the meantime, Immaculate , is just that! / “Steph Granshaw”: http://www.redbubble.com/people/stephg / Stephs gorgeous drawing Baby Blue landed in my hands all the way from Thailand just yesterday & is being beautifullly framed as we speak! / Mimi Yoon / Who is rushing a print of her gorgeous work, wear me wear you all the way from the U.S to Sydney, right as we speak! / AWarr / AWarr’s Beautiful Anonymous series caught my attention the moment i saw it, seemingly speaking right to the heart of one aspect of what Mirrors is all about, a new BA piece has been created especially for Mirrors, BA- Weightless is a hint at it’s direction. / Remus Grecu / Remus created 3 paintings for an award-winning Anti Anorexia campaign in Europe & has very kindly allowed us to display prints of the series as well as the video you can view here / A special mention to the lovely Pip Gerard whose journal alerted me to Remus’ work. So this is a MASSIVE thankyou to all of the amazing artists here who have so generously supported this project, it means such a great deal to me. There are also a number of other artists from right around Australia donating work, as well as submissions from the public & a number of pieces from in-hospital Art Therapy programs. For those of you in the Sydney region Mirrors opens this Wednesday, 14th October 6-8PM at: / Mori Gallery / 168 Day St / Darling Harbour / If you can’t make it to the opening night, don’t worry there is plenty of time, with the exhibtion running from the 15th-26th October. The issues Mirrors looks at affect all of our lives one way or another… whether it be as directly as in personal experience or that of friends or family… or from a distance in a more general sense. / We’d love you to invite friends & family & it’s easily done here I also just need to add one more little thankyou to Karin for kindly posting about Mirrors last week… Between co-ordinating the exhibition & finishing my own painting for it, my intention to post this much earlier was a little way-laid! / There were also a small number of you whom i know really would have loved to contribute but for one reason or another were unable to. I appreciate the in principle support many of you have expressed to me privately just as much :) Hope to see some of you at Mori on Wednesday!!! Xxx Sarah Opening Night / Photo Gallery

“Beauty is not just an image, it’s a feeling” Wednesday night saw the opening of the Mirrors Art Exhibtion, a charity event to benefit The Butterfly foundation, raising funds & awareness surrounding the complex issues of Eating Disorders & Body Image through Art. / The Gold framed mirror that nearly wasn’t… I found this frame in a council clean-up… & a friend had a 3m wall mounted Mirror he was desperate to get rid of… perfect for the event! Until the glass cutter wouldn’t go through as it was hardened glass! So i purchased a new piece, it was delivered with glue still wet just in time! / / You can read the full text written on the Mirror here As many of you will already know, alongside the events founder, Rhiannon Bulley, i’ve been involved in the organisation of the exhibition this year & was blessed with the support of several artists right here on the Bubble. / They included: Karin Taylor Cynthia Lund Torroll Bec Winnel Caitlin Shearer Steph Granshaw Mimi Yoon AWarr Remus Grecu Despite being supported by cool fashion & art mag Yen, no-one seemed to be too concerned with being “fashionably late”, in fact there were people sticky beaking from 5PM onwards… the show wasn’t billed to open until 6! It was a diverse crowd that flowed through the doors… From trendy young things to Mums with toddlers, Sharply dressed men who knew more than a thing or two about art to teenage boys who to my great surprise were incredibly interested in both the art & the issues. The several “creative spaces”, aimed at encouraging personal expression were warmly embraced… / / The Drawing Table / / Communal Canvasses… / / In progess… / / Finished!... Until the next person picks up the paintbrush! I started off the night managing the payment desk until my Dad kindly relieved me when a flood of people i knew arrived… I never made it back to the table… everytime i turned around there was another artist or friend, an opportunity to elaborate on an artwork & the creative force behind it, or a new face to meet… i would say the crowd more than tripled last years attendance, where i was merely someone who submitted a painting, & as part of the team this year, I couldn’t have been happier with the turn out… / / Serious Art Critics? / / Sisters / / Sisters 2: The little one & the adopted one Aside from the number & mix of people there, what made the night a success was the feeling amongst the crowd… And it wasn’t just the champagne & cupcakes… nor solely the wonderful art on the walls… people were genuinely interested in seeing such heavy issues cast in a different light… Books by artist Cindy Wider & Author whom herself beat Anorexia, Melinda Hutchings were donated to be raffled… / we had to enlist my Dad to get the attention of the chattering crowd… / / ...Although the serious concentration of the pair at the creative writing table in the foreground was unbreakable!... / / ...Rhiannon rewarded my Dad’s crowd control skills by drawing out his winning ticket! Whilst the seriouness of a deadly illness such as Anorexia can’t, & shouldn’t, be diluted in any way… the pervading feeling was one of hope… that where maybe the conventional wisdom is failing so many… perhaps there is another way. / No better example of this was found in a friend of a friend… A mother whose Daughter’s Best Friend has been battling Anorexia & is currently being treated in hospital for the 3rd time in the last 9 months… she relayed the all too familiar heartache of a family who feel helpless, & a girl who feels she lost her Best Friend… Despite her obvious sadness & concern for this young girl, her face lit up as she excitedly explained that this young girl was herself a talented artist… her work featured in Art Express, despite her illness preventing her from completing her HSC… and just maybe something in Mirrors, or the concept of the event itself, just might reach her. The hope was that she might be well enough to visit on day release… But where there is a will there is a way… if she can’t come to Mirrors then i may take Mirrors to her… whilst i can’t very well carry paintings in to the hospital, i can take photos… & hopefully a little of the feeling it’s all inspired. This dresser was the centrepiece of a shoot by photographer Louise Whelan / / _An old friend who worked for my Dad when i was a kid, Lou & i caught up a few months ago… / / ...The dresser & the concept for her shoot were already in motion before i even mentioned The Mirrors Exhibtion… / / ...It was naturally perfect for the exhibition… sweet synchronicity once again! Next week, once Mirrors begins to wind down i will be posting a complete photo gallery of as many works as possible, including the work of all my wonderful Bubblers, & a bit of a wrap on sales, funds raised & a few other little surprises! / The one sneak peek i can give you is at my own piece for the exhibition, What If I’m A Mermeaid… and in an unexpected twist, last week we discovered that Nature Colours Beauty my painting from last year, whilst paid for in full, was never picked up… fortunately it was quickly sold once again! Although i have already expressed my gratitude, both publicly & privately, to all of the Red Bubble artists involved i cannot rave about the success of the night without mentioning once more just how grateful i am… when i began seeking artists for this project i must admit there was some nervous hesitation, i am not one to ask for help or favours generally… But my belief in the Mirrors concept & cause overrode that & i’m so thankful it did… Not only for the benefit of the exhibition but it began what have turned into some very special friendships… there’s the power of art for you right there. / Yet i’m still amazed at the willingness & support i & the exhibition have received, especially since posting this journal in the lead up to the event… & in hindsight it would seem that a great number of you would have loved to be involved… & we’d have loved to have you… so although this years exhibition is still hanging on the walls, whilst it’s fresh in mind, if you’re interested in being involved in Mirrors in some way in the future, please leave me a comment here or drop me a bmail & i’ll compile a little list for reference when we begin planning for next year. Thankyou all for your love, support & encouragement, / Xxx Sarah / The Lead up / Photo Gallery

At this stage we’re still counting the coins, but it looks as though the funds raised for the Butterfly Foundation will be substantially above last years total. HI Bubblers I’m back and I was really happy until Jul alerted me to the fact that someone has lifted my work Madame Butterfly / / and posted it on Flickr here Although I don’t recognize any of the other works, some are vaguely familiar so you might want to have a look at what someone using the nic tadeleon is up too. Thank you so much Jul for letting me know, just shows how vigilant we need to be when browsing other sites, especially auction sites as I’ve even come across people selling lifted artworks. ...but it’s still great to be back and I hope to get around to catching up;) Um…Juls has just notified me of another rip-off here / This time it’s of Awakening / / and stolen by someone called Elena Harris!
