We wanted to send man to the moon. / We did. We wanted to supply man with a / way to communicate through fiber optics. / We did that too. But what happens when the / human counterpart is so reliant on technology, / that it forgets to…be human? Numbers, dates, / appointments all stored in a portable database. / Families neglect to interact with each other because / they all have a human counterpart that they can connect / with. Patience is a thing of the past because anything / they want is at their fingertips. Ideas are unoriginal / because they have all been thought of before; typed, dated, / and logged. The Sea Venture was one of the first ships to arrive in Bermuda. It was thrown accidentally off course by a hurricane and landed on the reefs intact. Its original course was with a fleet from England headed towards / Jamestown, Virginia to aid in the colonization. From being shipwrecked, the crew and passengers of the Sea Venture settled in Bermuda and benefitted from its tropical paradise and set up a small colony. This painting is a Mixed Media piece, combining original digital photography taken in Bermuda by me SBC, with my painting, and drawings. It is intended to capture the natural and surreal beauty of Bermuda through my eyes. This art won an Honorable Mention Award in the Rowayton Art Show in 2006 and First Place in the Darien Art Show in 2007. It is presently being considered for exhibition at the Royal Navy Dockyard Museum in Bermuda. Thank you for your interest, comments and purchases!

Oil Pastel and Acrylic on old wood with slight digital enhancements Ophelia, puzzled by the radical transformation that had taken place overnight to this butterfly friend of hers, thought to herself, “She was in a white thread-like casing yesterday, how did all that happen so fast? There must be something magical about that case!” This is inspired by a book Hope For The Flowers by Trina Paulus. This is a cute and yet thought provoking story about two caterpillars who because they mistake the meaning of their urge to get high, get entangled climbing a horrible “caterpillar pillar”. And for two caterpillars, we all know, surrendering to the cocoon is the only way to finally fly. Hope For the Flowers is a book that celebrates HOPE. My fave lines from the book is “How does one become a butterfly?” She asked pensively. “You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.” We are all meant to be as beautiful and free like the butterflies, that’s our destiny…as we free ourselves to be who we really are…and together with our innate talents,we bring hope to the world around us, bringing change inevitably around us :D / You can view and buy my other “Metamorphosis” creations from my Zazzle Gallery:

Acrylic On Canvas A piece that was inspired about watching Wong Kar Wai’s film In The Mood For Love, set in 60s Hong Kong. A story about forbidden love and in the story, the female and male leads shared some special moments in room 2046 – writing martial novels :D The chinese title of this movie is Hua Yang Nian Hua. The Chinese title, Huayang Nianhua (translated in the subtitles as “Full Bloom” but more accurately meaning “those wonderful varied years”), is more suggestive of period nostalgia and the Shanghai association, pointing to an iridescent, kaleidoscopic age of bygone elegance and diversity. / You can view and purchase my other “Hua Yang Nian Hua” creations from my Zazzle Gallery: / /

This is my beautiful friend Nathalie, in a Tara-style portrait….all photos and textures used my own, with the exception of the original photo of Nat. :) The brightly coloured background image is a pastel drawing my girls and I did together a few weeks ago. All images combined using Photoshop Elements 2.0. Canon Powershot A480 point and shoot for butterfly and textures. Proudly New Zealand-made. :) Uploaded July 27, 2009. Best Viewed Full Size This little image is only one of nearly 400 (yes, I discovered the rapid fire thingie on the new camera over the weekend) I took of these most amazing creatures. It means the world to me that I was able to play with them as I’ve never seen a Monarch in our garden in Maryland. The “lawn” to the cabin next to ours on Blue Knob Mountain in Claysburg Pennsylvania has been left uncut all summer … and the most incredible wild vegetation has grown up. One is this pretty purple flowered stalk … which happen to be very much beloved by the Monarch Butterflies. Image taken with the Nikon D300 and the 70-300mm vr Nikon lens at shutter speed 1/160, aperture f/10.0, exp 0.00, iso 800. Focal length 220mm.
