  • A collection of butterfly images taken from Canada and Australia. Butterflies provide a diverse range of colour and patterns as they feed upon flowers in natural and constructed settings. / Each species of butterfly has developed a unique colour and pattern system, which is often different on the fore wing and hind wing. These variations in pattern and colours serve as camouflage or warning to predators and as attractants to the opposite gender during mating. / Species of one butterfly may mimic the colour of another as part of its defence system. / Through this calender you will see examples of butterflies of various sizes showing bright colours and camouflage patterns that they have adapted in their fight for survival.

  • Butterflies have varying wing patterns between species, between sexes of the same species and even on the upper or lower sections of their wings. Some use colours as a warning or for attracting mates while others use colours and patterns to blend into the background. In the end it is a splendid array of variation which provide the content for this calender.
