  • A nice Aussie outback scene. The location is about 45min drive north of Goondiwindi, on a back road through to Yelarbon. It’s all quite standard scrub the entire way, except for this one area of sand ridge with different vegetation. Quite nice to look at.

  • Orange Clivia Miniata , taken at Heronswood Homestead, Dromana, Mornington Peninsua, Australia The afternoon sun came through the overhead trees to shine right into the cup of the flower, a most unusual phenomena, a lucky capture! Clivia miniata, also known as Bush lily, is a species of clivia, from South Africa. It grows to a height of about 45cm in the shade of trees and shrubs, and flowers are red or orange, with a faint, but very sweet perfume. / Clivias are named after Lady Clive the Duchess of Northumberland, whose grandfather was the famous Clive of India / Panasonic FZ20

  • This picture took a long time to create. The flowers (Chamaescilla corymbosa) are very common in the bush near my home, but they are also very tiny, so it is difficult to create a frame free of “clutter”. I wanted the orange flower to be an out-of-focus background contrast to the main blooms, while having all the stamens sharp. Lots of time lying down with the tripod in amongst the jackjumpers! Velvia scan. “Dance with me!” was featured in the group A Beautiful Blur.

  • Beautiful Monarch Butterfly perched on a butterfly bush, backlit and soft background kind of like the butterfly bush put a spell on the Monarch so that it would stay for a long time and it did, much to my great joy! Origonal image taken in Shady Cove, Oregon

  • Finally I’m seeing butterflies and usually by now I’ve seen / quite a few…but usually the yellow ones—but today this polka dot one appeared on the scene and stayed around but wouldn’t sit still for barely a second…like to drove me crazy capturing this image. “To make a wish come true, / whisper it to a Butterfly. / Upon these wings it will be taken to / heaven and granted, for they are the / messengers of the Great Spirit.” / ~~Native American Legend /

  • While I was chatting on the phone with my Yorkshire friends, Jesika and Jim, a lovely Gulf Fritillary was flitting about the garden where I was sitting. I captured this image of the butterfly and would like to dedicate it to Jesika and Jim in thanksgiving for their faithful friendship and for Jesika’s inspiring photography work with butterflies; she is the queen of this type of photo and she inspires me to appreciate the beauty of these heavenly creatures. God bless you both, Jesika and Jim! From the U.S. Gulf coast to the U.K. this one’s for you!

  • Our part-time gardener, pruning in the rain / Why hike for hours in the rain, searching for rutting bull moose, only to find a bull moose pruning bushes and tree in our ‘burb? Thanks to Peter Davidson for the video on Hoots mon, there’s a moose loose aboot this hoose D200 and Nikkor 18-200mm About size and weight, wikipedia has this to say: / “On average, an adult moose stands 1.8–2.1 m (6–7 ft) high at the shoulder. Males weigh 380–720 kg (850–1580 pounds) and females weigh 270–360 kg (600–800 pounds).[7] The largest of all is the Alaskan subspecies (A. a. gigas), which can stand over 2.1 m (7 ft) at the shoulder, has a span across the antlers of 1.8 m (6 ft) and averages 634.5 kg (1,396 lbs) in males and 478 kg (1,052 lbs) in females.[8] Typically, however, the antlers of a mature specimen are between 1.2 m (3.9 ft) and 1.5 m (4.9 ft).” An early digital Sony camera shot of a bull at our neighbor’s house late one night /

  • It rained over two inches today and the wind was downright nasty. So of course, I decided to take a stroll through Bandon Park in the heart of Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Light was practically nonexistent, but the downpour had just ended, so I mounted my camera on the ol’ tripod and started shootin’ up a storm. Turns out, it was a much more beautiful autumn evening than I ever could have hoped for! The city of Williamsport owns this beautiful park and it is meticulously maintained by our Parks & Recreation Department. The leaves will all be gathered and will be used to make a wonderfully rich mulch. The mulch is used by the city and is also made available to local residents in the spring for their gardening needs. A Canon EOS 10D DSLR body, fitted with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L Zoom lens. The lens was set to its 24mm focal length. The camera’s shutter speed was 1/6th sec at f/8. ISO was set to 400. This photograph was taken on a Manfrotto tripod. Your comments are always welcome!
