March 13th 2008 a property on Range Road at Willunga, known as ‘Yurunga’ that was burned to the ground approximately 50 acres of natural scrub land was lost in the fire. Courageous CFS fire fighters risked their own lives to save the property. With the sun going down, the smoke from the bush fires just rolled across the Derwent River in Hobart Tasmania, Australia. / An eerie but beautiful sight.

Photo taken by collegue Simon Frankel. Then edited in Photoshop by myself. Thankyou to Simon for allowing me to post the photo. This was not a sand storm as some may think. Just over the hill was a raging fire that was taking control in 2006. They were taken at Pike River during the bush fire that burnt out around 120,000 hectares of scrub just north of the Riverland. / It was a mixture of smoke, stormy grey cloud and some sun trying to break through.

Oil Painting inspired by my days as a volunteer firefighter. Something we face every Summer in Australia. In some areas you can live in constant fear of the threat of fire. Not sure if I’ve finished this one yet, but hey, I’ll give it a run. Two of the prime objectives of a fire fighting organisation is to protect life and protect property. Here the characters are endeavouring to do both without a thought that they are putting their own lives at risk.

This image was taken the morning after the Bush fire at Boulie Rock Hole at the camping ground all the smoke still around until breeze came up later and cleared the area – post bug in ear incident!

Captured on La Palma (canarian islands) at around 2300 metres above sea level (with a Canon 5D + 24-105L lens). / You can see that the pictures was taken way above the clouds.There was a big fire which burned down a massive amount of bushes. Because of the shape of the bushes (plantago webbii) it still looked like fire. / White flames…White fire

This happened earlier this year just a block away from where we live in Western Australia…. Amazing how fast the bush caught alight and the intense heat was overbearing..

This is an acrylic painting of the Snow Gums at Kosciusko. Bad fires / went through the National Park about 3 years ago and this shows how / the gums regenerate as fire is part of the natural cycle in the bush.

A few months earlier fire had raveged the hilly bushland, now with the first green of regrowth showing, a cloudy cold front has swept in from the south/west showing the two opposites of Australian weather in the one picture.
