Early this morning I decided to drive about an hour into the Blue Mountains to go for a bit of bushwalking and to check out the lookouts around the Wentworth Falls area. / However the weather was terrible, with it basically being a whiteout with visibility down to about 20m and constant drizzling rain, so not the best weather for lookouts and photography! / I decided to head over to King’s Tableland and have a look at McMahon’s Lookout which is down the end of a 20km dirt track, however half way down the road I decided to capture the view in front of me which consisted of the road and trees disappearing into the thick mist. / I will have to head back up on a clearer day! / Photo taken with barely any post processing, just exposure, black point and levels.. / Thanks for having a look, as always comments and critiquing are most welcome.. Best Viewed LARGE EXIF Data / Date: 21/04/2008 / Time: 10:40am / Aperture: f/11 / Shutter: 0.05sec (1/20) / ISO: 200 / Focal Length: 26mm

100% of proceeds received from Redbubble in respect to sales of this item, will be donated to Bush Heritage Australia Photo of a Gentoo Penguins taken at Gold Harbour, South Georgia Island. The Gentoo Penguin is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red list of Threatened Species Melting sea ice and overfishing have triggered a dangerously rapid decline in penguin populations on the Antarctic peninsula – a direct result of global warming, warns a new report from the WWF. Temperatures on the frozen continent are rising five times faster than the global average due to the unprecedented rate of climate change, pushing four species perilously close to extinction. Warmer temperatures are forcing penguins to raise their young on increasingly thinner and more precarious ice floes, while stronger winds mean many eggs and chicks are being blown away from their parents before they are able to survive on their own. The gentoo, chinstrap and adélie – along with the emperor, the largest penguin species in the world – are now struggling to survive as melting sea ice destroys nesting sites and reduces vital food sources, such as krill.

© Simone Byrne Photography, 2008. All Rights Reserved. 3rd October, 2008 Turpins Falls, a slice of paradise in the middle of nowhere. When you first arrive here you have to wonder what you are going to find as there are just sheep paddocks as far as the eye can see, but once you walk down to the falls this massive crater opens up in one of the paddocks, it is such an amazing surprise. This location is a well known haunt for rock climbers in Summer. The track leading down to the base of the falls has been fenced off, but it is relatively safe to venture down. Metcalfe, Victoria, Australia Camera: Canon EOS 350D Lens: Canon 18-55mm @ focal length 18mm Exposure: 2 sec, f16, ISO 100 Filters: Hoya UV, Cokin 121S Grad ND8 HDR: AEB (-1, 0, +1) Tone Mapping: Photomatix Pro Processing: Adobe Photoshop CS This image has had the Orton Effect applied. The Orton Effect is named after photographer, Michael Orton. He basically would shoot two images of the one scene on slide film, the first sharp and over exposed by two stops and the second out of focus and over exposed by one stop. He would then sandwich the two images together in a slide mount to give an impressionistic view of the scene. This link explains how to re-create the effect digitally with photoshop. This is where my son and I were returning from when I had the ATV accident in September. I’m anxious to return next fall, but this time I’m making the 4 mile trip on foot, and leaving the 4-wheeler at home.
