This is one of the first shots ever taken with my DSLR.. I thought the rusty appearance of the roller worked well with the surrounding paddock landscape to give off a country feel.. / I desaturated the sky to make the roller pop from the image a bit more.. / Thanks for having a look!

The story of this painting… / “My childhood in South Africa was on my mind while I painted this landscape. If you have ever been to Africa, you may appreciate why I titled this painting “Veld Storm”... In summer there are afternoon thunderstorms… the sky turns a vivid blue, yet the sun still shines on the land – accentuating the colours. This is a reflection of that time.” / The wonderful thing about afternoon thunderstorms in Africa is that while they are strong they are also brief, and in their wake the sun always comes out again, exploding the sky with the most magnificent sunset as it hits the dissipating storm. I feel the vividness and colours that I have used in this artwork more than adequately depicts this moment in time in Africa. Acrylic On Canvas – 120cm x 40cm

IOn a walk in the Brisbane Ranges I started taking photos of the moving stream. Was beautifully surprised when the images kept coming of the ripples.

The sun sets on the African bush.

Another image from my recent trip away. Walking in the bush early one morning I was rewarded with this shot. A mysterious little light has been caught on camera winging its way across the landscape. I don’t really know what it is or how it was caused but I’m really happy its there…..... look at it in large view…...:) and you can go here for a close up of the little golden light…...

“My family is an odd one. My father is older than my grandparents. My brother was older than my mother. I am an only child but I have a brother. It is the stuff of Hollywood and my family story is always very entertaining to others and while it does make for interesting conversation it has its down side. Bruce was thirty when I was born and by then had already launched himself into what ultimately became his obsession so I guess it seemed unlikely from the outset that we would ever be close. This has always been a source of sadness for me. But I have always been immensely proud of what he worked so hard to achieve and remain proud of the legacy he has left to the scientific community and the country as a whole. Now that I am in my thirties and finally getting my own shit together, so to speak, I was looking forward to forming a closer adult relationship with my brother. I was looking forward to finding out what it was really like to be somebody’s sister. However it was not to be. I tried to come to see him before Christmas last year but he put me off citing this problem and that. I laughed it off at the time, amused at how like his father he was. I thought there would still be time but he chose not to tell us he had a serious heart condition and it will be a while before I can forgive him for gypping me out of a big brother. We didn’t get to share much but I do at least have the memories of childhood visits with the dingoes, a common artistic flair for photography and above all, and the thing for which I am most grateful, a shared love and passion for all animals great and small, by which to remember him.” / ____________ I wrote this to be read at my brother’s funeral almost 3 years ago now. The obsession of which I spoke was the dingo and this is a photograph I took when I visited his property outside Castlemaine, Victoria after we were notified of his death by the local police. As I say, it has been almost 3 years since his death and I still have not quite come to terms with all that was lost when he died. I have still not quite forgiven him for doing me out of a brother nor myself for not pursuing a relationship more fiercely. This is my friend, Pete’s place. It is located somewhere out of Seymour, Victoria and is some very gorgeous rocky country. The day we were there we some of the most spectacularly changable weather and this was taken late in the afternoon when the atmosphere had this warm glow.
