So I’m afraid that a close-up of an eye with various work in photoshop may be a bit cliché- but enough people have done it that I don’t have a particular example to credit as my inspiration. Created in photoshop with a picture I took of my eye (next to the sink :) ) and a picture of a campfire from this summer. I now also have a second in a series of element eye images Awash – let me know what you think, I think I like Ablaze better but it will be cool when I have all of them… /

We were living in Tustin, California when several really fierce firestorms devastated Southern California. This is a picture taken during that time and capturing the ferociousness of the fires. Nat Tyler and Agent Provocateur have asked What’s your vision for the future? in a weekend T-shirt design challenge. The year 2258? It’s pretty hard for me to imagine a bright future right now. The lure of hover cars and pretty much everything we were promised in Back to the Future II is far outweighed by the thought that we’re pretty well fucked. What did we do with all that oil, all that coal, all those resources? We burned it.

The human sat alone, head hanging down. / Tears fell silently. / They felt so empty, even the pain was a welcome embrace, so when a hand touched upon their shoulder they did not have the strength to look up. “Go away!” / said the human, not even knowing what they wanted. / “I want to be left alone….I ….” / Yet all the while thinking / “Please don’t go away, I don’t want to be alone” / but when they glanced up, there was no one there, just a shift in the light and the hint of warmth on the air. The Angel spoke from nowhere, and everywhere. You thought your love would last forever… / But it did not. / You thought that fire in your heart would never fade, / But it slowly died. / You thought that the fire in the other’s eyes would never grow dim, yet it suddenly burned out…and was gone. / How cheated you feel – What a waste! You grieve, you hurt – oh! how you hurt for all you feel you have lost. / It seems the warmth, the light, the love has gone… / That nothing is left…. But remember this… True love knows three flames – / It is a sacred trinity. When two flames unite, they create a third flame that burns more brightly than both that created it. / This mysterious alchemy is of another dimension. / It cannot be seen with human eyes, it cannot be touched with human hands, but sometimes, if you are quiet and still and truly believe, it can be felt with the human heart. / Once lit, this flame burns forever. / It cannot be measured or contained in human terms. / Yet long after those two souls have burned themselves out, when time and reason and humanity have worn down the passion of their union, or regardless, their journey calls them onto different paths, / The fire of their creation remains, / A light that shines eternally / In a dark and longing world. Love may be over / In your eyes / But in the eyes of the universe, / What your love created / What your heart set free, / Will live on, / A celebration of what once was and will always be. True love creates three flames – / And one will burn forever. (This image was created to inject some warmth and hope back into the lives of two dear friends who are hurting right now….their own flames have died down, leaving them cold, shattered and grieving. To all who hurt this way, I know only too well how cold it can be….. may the energy of this image bring back a little of what you need to believe again…..love xoxox)

Tribute to those men and women who daily place themselves in danger to protect and save that which is precious to us…...... Sometimes there is humanity within abstraction. I’m not sure the proper way to put it, but this, of all my art, bears my humanity. It may seem odd that I consider this myself as other… but the it no rule dictating if other must be human, fantastical, or pure energy upon paper. I consider this to be myself, simply ripped apart and dug into deeply. / This may look like nothing, but it actually was one of the most intensive experiences I’ve had in the visual arts. I find a bit of direction and even peace in it, though its colors are those of anger and melancholy. I chose to post it because I believe in the soul of a work of art, and know for sure that souls, those not inborn, must develop by rubbing off of another through regular interaction – something can be the most magnificent picture/painting in the world, but it is as empty as laser-pigment on bleached printer paper if it came in a flash… likewise the worst image imaginable may have a deepness to shame the ocean if it was danced with for weeks, months, years… there is notable merit in beauty alone, sure, but a soul is often required to speak freely to others.

This an old picture of mine. Whenever it is shown it has always been a point of discussion. Most people that I have shown it to often see one of two images. Many see a question mark but more interestingly most view a boxing skull emerging from the broken light globe. Anyway I hope you enjoy it and thanks for dropping by.

Forest fires are one of the deadliest natural disasters facing mankind. California has recently been inundated with raging forest fires that have claimed hundreds of thousands of acres of land and numerous lives. On June 20, 2008, a severe thunderstorm system moved through northern and central California resulting in over 6,000 total lightning strikes in more than 26 counties. The overwhelming number of lightning strikes, along with record dry conditions sparked over two thousand lightning fires. A combination of aggressive firefighting efforts from CAL FIRE and the USFS, including over 25,000 firefighting personnel from across the state, nation and world, strategically tackled the suppression of these incidents. To date, 2,096 fires have burned nearly 1.2 million acres. The majority of these fires have been contained, yet conditions remain extremely dry and fire danger remains very high. As one of the most severe wildland fire situations ever experienced in California’s history, these fires destroyed a total of 511 structures and have taken 15 lives. For more information click here Much of my family lives in the areas that have been stricken recently with these fires. They are an awsome force to contend with. A wildfire, also known as a wildland fire, forest fire, brush fire, vegetation fire, grass fire, peat fire, bushfire (in Australasia), or hill fire, is an uncontrolled fire often occurring in wildland areas, but which can also consume houses or agricultural resources. Common causes include lightning, human carelessness, slash-and-burn farming, arson, volcano eruption, pyroclastic cloud from active volcano, and underground coal fire. Heat waves, droughts, and cyclical climate changes such as El Niño can also dramatically increase the risk of wildfires. The word “wildfire” was once a synonym for Greek fire as well as a word for any furious or destructive conflagration. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the earliest known usages are specifically for lightning-caused conflagrations. The modern usage may have arisen in part from people misunderstanding the expression “spread like wildfire”. This shot was taken last year. We had a fire on Cove mountain, which is on the boundaries of the Great Smoky Mountains. The fire had burnt for a good 5days, winds were up to 50mph. On this particular night, as they were finally getting the fire contained, and we were having a lunar eclipse. / I took off over to that area , in hopes the eclipse would be over the fires, to my luck it was. / I stood in a field down below, winds high, pitch black, and Cold! getting shots of this historical event / I sent this shot to our local newspaper, they were going to run a story on it, and me. Of course I was so excited about this, told everyone!! Well it turned out the shot was too dark for print for a newspaper. I tried to get them to use some other shots I had done, but some unfortunately were alittle too blurry, and this was the shot they wanted to run on the paper. / To date it was one of the most crushing experiences of my life with my photography. I bashed myself for a long time for not “shooting it right” , racking my brain trying to figure out, what exactly i did wrong. Did I use the right SS, or should have used Apt mode..what? After checking my stats on the shot, I did shoot it correctly, it still didnt help soothe that deep wound within me. I mean I was probably the only photographer who captured history being made…twice…the lunar eclipse and the fire on the mountains. This shot would have been my big break for being noticed. The “lights” you see on this shot, are hot spots where the fires are. The fire had started on one mountain, due to some guy who burnt his trash, his fire got alittle out of control so the FD had to be called in. They didnt get all of it out, the fire was in the underbrush, a couple of days later we had winds clocked at 50mph come thru, this got the fire started up again and caused it to jump over to another mountain. On the top of that mountain some rental cabins burnt (which I was a ok with..they dont belong up there!) No one was hurt in this fire thank god, but I was hoping that this fire so close to my mountains was a sign..hey you are getting to close and stop the building. / What they have done a year later, was rebuild the cabins and shaved off more trees to protect them…really pisses me off everytime I drive by and see it.
