This photo holds so many childhood memories for me having grown up in this very kitchen and still today when I go back it’s there for me.

This small Jaguar vessel was probably used for burning copal incense during ceremonies or on a small home alter. It is between 1200 and 1400 years old (Give or take a hundred years or so). It’s actually a 3 legged vessel, but the angle of this photo only lets you see 2 of them.

Fractal Explorer Gen Newton IV formula and PI. I’ve often thought about The Charcoal Burners, mentioned in Thomas Hardy’s novel The Woodlanders. What a hard life coppicing and burning for little reward. Living and sleeping on the job. / Nowadays it is an industry on a much grander scale. Regular coppicing of hazel and chestnut woodland encourages light, wildflowers and insects into these managed glades, leading to a build-up of bird populations. It is part of an important wildlife habitat cycle.
This is an incense burner that I bought on Koh Kred island; a small man-made island just outside of Bangkok, Thailand. It is home to the Mon community, known to be skilled potters. The island is small enough that you can go around on foot in about a couple of hours (no cars are allowed). The guide told us to walk so that the water was always to our left so that we would not lose our way. I of course realized at one point that the water was to my right … typical! In trying to find my way back, I stumbled upon this building that had pottery work as far as the eye could see. As I was taking photos, a woman grabbed my arm and lead me in to a row of four men who were spinning pottery … my own private showing!

This photo was shot at the Williamsport Municipal Airport, along the Susquehanna river, in north central Pennsylvania. The photo was taken with a Canon EOS 10D with a Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L telephoto zoom lens @ 140mm. The shutter speed was 1/350th sec at f/16. The camera’s ISO was set to 100.
