Picture your average squirrel or chipmunk: lively, easily agitated, loves to jump about and move quickly. That does not describe this squirrel. I came upon this little guy in Burnaby, BC sitting at a bus stop. To my surprise, it did not run away from me. I got as close as I dared to him, and he scarely blinked. I shooed him away from the street with my hankerchief. I noticed that he could walk, but he was very slow about it. On my way back past the same bus stop 30 minutes later the squirrel was still there and he threw himself in my path as I came by. Very odd. I thought he would run into the street. I shooed him again with the hankerchief but he didn’t move. It wasn’t until I pushed him in the bum with my shoe that he dawdled slowly back to a tree. Unbelievable. He must have been injured or something.

Acrylic painting of one of the horses from the carousel in Burnaby, British Columbia (Canada). Painted on canvas the original is $600 (CND) and is currently on display. This horse is called the Colonel and is a hunting horse. Note the dead rabbit. When the carousel was restored there was debate on whether or not to paint the eye on the rabbit. Apparently an artist just went out and painted it on.
