From the time I learned how to read I’ve been accused of always having my nose in a book. These books were on the shelves in my parent’s home and I remember working my way through them as a teenager, some more interesting to me than others. Pride And Prejudice was a favourite with me from the very first word. Elizabeth Bennett, her dreadful mother and the wondrous Mr. D’Arcy have all been ‘friends’, as most characters in books have been to me. So this photograph is something of an homage to my old friends in Regency England. :-)
A deceptively simple image, one that some may even think to label boring. That’s ok, art is always going to be subjective. When I walked into this room however this view literally took my breath away. It was of course all about the light. The way it softly caressed the seat, and invited the wood panelling around the window and on the arm of the seat to soak up some of the rich colour of the walls. Sending smoky tendrils around the entire room, softly…softly… before boldly landing on the floor to make such an emphatic statement. The wooden floorboards, unable to contain the power of the light seek help from the fireplace and reflect some up to its helping hands. This image for me truly is a love affair, a fleeting rendevous that will stay with me forever.
As I sat and watched the evening news with my wife and older sister we all sat and slowly cried as we watched our dying city. The city took us to some small town out in the middle of Texas. / And left us there like some old clothes that had been rejected. And as we sat and watched this TV in the middle of the day remembering all the life we had before Katrina came an swept it all away! It wasn’t very long ago we walked down its lively streets and mingled with the visitors down on old Bourbon Street. One week before the waters came and washed our souls away and now were living in a place that feels like some old grave! Please tell me Mr News caster whens all the promises gonna come? And finally take us back to home like all our leaders said. It looks to me that all along they knew they lied to us, so we sit here crying in this dying place as we watch the evening news. And I wonder Mr President while you spend billions on your war could you maybe give a little to rebuilding the 9th Ward? And another thing Mr President can you answer this small thing will we ever see that place called home our old New Orleans?
These little things just look so perfect… velvety petals and deep, rich burgundy color. LavenderMoon~

Another pattern I created while teaching myself how best to use Illustrator to create seamless tiles. See also Reggtro and Starflower This one was used to figure out what I can and can’t get away with. / This one is also interesting because I was experimenting with using Illustrators symbols. / The advantage being that once I have my tile repeating using a symbol(s) all I need to do to update the pattern is update the symbol and the changes made will propagate throughout. You can set up a similar technique in Photoshop by using smart layers. /

The saying “An Early Bird catches the Worm” certainly applies to photography. The best and most rewarding shots are often captured early in the morning while the mist is rising and life is beginning to stir. This image was shot early one morning at our B&B in Burgundy, France. I used a Leica M7 with Kodak slide film and scanned the image with an Epson 2450

There’s something about the beauty of a dying rose that is as interesting and unique as the rose in its prime. I am drawn to them lately. This is 4th in my series. Brushes, textures and duplicates of the image as background. Worked in PS. Nikon D90, Nikon VR18-200 lens.
