Caution prevented us from photographing a moose during today’s hike in the Chugach range. This is a shot from last fall of a cute young buck with his beautiful furry rack. He stands near tennis courts at the public school near our home. On average, an adult moose stands 1.8–2.1 m (6–7 ft) high at the shoulder. Males weigh 380–720 kg (850–1580 pounds). His antlers when and if he becomes mature will grow between 1.2 m (3.9 ft) and 1.5 m (4.9 ft). Wikipedia.org ranks ungulates in Alaska as largest of those in North America and Europe. They look large to me, and cute as this one looks, we don’t get near them. Taught the dogs not to chase them – or aggravate them by barking. Ungulates regularly trim the trees and bushes in our neighborhood. We’re contemplating what to plant in place of one tree and a mugo pine this year. Nikon D70, Nikkor 70-300mm, 300mm, F/5.6, 1/200, -0.3 exposure compensation, ISO 200, manual exposure mode / Straightened horizon line, only.

One of the first results from the 35mm pinhole cam Mk2. I’ve seen this type of image before, taken with ordinary cameras, and wondered what result I’d get with a pinhole. Overall, I think I’m less happy with this camera than the Mk1 (used for most of my other pinhole images here), so have resurrected that one for the time being. Details: 27 mm focal length / f/140 approx / 10 min approx / colour neg film / no photoshop, except black/white points The Camera: Yes, there is a hole in that metal plate! / / .......................................................................................... / Image Copyright Duncan Waldron © 2008 / This image may not be reproduced without permission / .......................................................................................... / /
