  • The Bunyip of Boobera
    by Damian

‘There’s something in the water,’ Bill mumbled, speaking through lips that were already swollen, along with the entire side of his face.

A short story set near where I grew up, based on Aboriginal mythology ideas. This story won the Writer’s Market Group eBook competition, and is destined to be eBooked through Mystic Moon Press! Coming in October 2008. Thanks to my real-world friends for comments for improving this story, to Kate Smith/Empress for her many great suggestions, and to all who’ve read and made suggestions since I’ve added it to RB.

  • Hurdling along in my sprinter I came to a sudden holt as i cross the bridge and i saw the water reeds floating in the creek it kept me occupied for quite along time watching the reeds moving in the water.

  • Clive loves the simple things in life – kicking back in his billabong with a Coopers Pale listening to his Triffids records.

  • A cover for an Era Publications Australia young readers book. A yowie or Bunyip has just risen from the shallow waters of an Australian river. This is a beast similar to the Yeti and North American Bigfoot and figures in the mythological stories of Australia’s indigenous peoples. It lives in and around billabongs and rivers.

It’s finally up! My story, The The Bunyip Of Boobera, is now up and official over at Mystic Moon Press! / Here it is. Clicky clicky! / Cover art by David Bowman I’ve got an excerpt still here on RB, as I’d added it here for a brief visit originally. I’d had the story rejected for publication by ASIM (maaaybe aimed too high for a first outing…), so asked Kate for some editing help (thanks again!), and also got feedback from a few other folk too. The new shiny version went on to win the eBook competition in the WMG, organised by Ronnie, and judged by Mystic Moon Press, giving me an open door to publication! Now it’s out there on its own, and I can’t keep going over and over it and never letting go, as I can tend to do… nothing ever feels finished enough… which leads to nothing going anywhere. So 2008 has been my year of letting go. :)

  • This fire near Tonimbuk is part of the terrible devastation the State of Victoria is experiencing with these unprecedented high temperatures of 46degC+. (114deg F) I happened to be driving home to Drouin, from the Melbourne suburbs, when I photographed this.

  • The fires of the past few days are horrific. Way too many lives have been lost, not to mention all the animals, birds, wildlife and domestic stock. Families are in ruins, homes are destroyed. I am doing all I can to help. You can too, by donating one of your images to the group, so funds can be raised to help everyone. Being safe in Adelaide, its the least I can do. • Went for a quick scout today for possible model shoot locations. Only about 25mins from my place the Bunyip State forest was the location of one of the major bush fire recently here in Victoria. Still places are smoldering up there.

  • I’m going to attempt a monster ABC. I know it’s going to take me a long time, because we’re talking about 26 individual illustrations where each is several hours of work.. and I don’t have a lot of free time. Still, I’ve begun with the inspiration for the entire series – Clive the Bunyip. I wanted a different style to what was on the tee so I’ve done a digital painting. I’d love to hear what you think of this one, and what you think of the idea for a series.

  • INTERVIEW with the Boogieman

Interview with the Boogieman is a third part of a series on interviews with Mythical beings.

  • Cross between a rabbit and something a little weirder, the wombat is a solitary creature. This one was in the Moonlit Sanctuary in Pearcedale, Victoria, Australia. I cannot remember her name, but it began with an “R” :-D I shall find out. Anyway, she was sweet enough, even if she did eat with her mouth open… at least that meant I was able to get this shot! Canon 400d / 75-300mm lens.

  • On a working farm on Churchill Island, Victoria, Australia, I grew tired of watching the sheep shearing and horseshoe changing that I saw enough as a child, and started to pay attention to the other animals. This cow was not happy that the horse was getting all the attention and I managed to catch her mid moo several times. I wonder if she was moo-ing more that she was not getting the attention, or because she had a very very runny nose? Either way, I did not fancy getting too close to find out after I saw a glimpse of her teeth. Herbivore she may be, but still…. Canon 400d.
