BUNNY

Not to be outdone by some of the beautiful animals who have had their photos posted here on RB by their pets (yes you did read that correctly), allow me to introduce the funniest bunny on the planet – Taz. Taz is my five year old, supposed-to-be-a-Lionhead, but he didn’t quite work out properly. People often ask what the heck he is, and who can blame them, but he is the smartest and most loving housebunny anyone could wish for. His fur grows rapidly and continuously so I have to give him a “hare-cut” every few weeks so he can actually see his beautiful girlfriend bunny, Savanna. Taz’s hobbies are imitating a Tribble, mugging me for all the treats he can get and caravanning. Yes indeed, when we go away with the caravan for weekends in Merrie Olde England, the bunnies come too – they have their own bun-run which we place on the grass so they can get a taste of the local bunny fare! N.B. The wild bunnies, which are commonly found on such campsites, tend to treat them with disdain! I can’t imagine why! ;o) Savanna, the girlfriend. /

Acrylic On Canvas Ophelia,Phoebe and Mel having fun on the elephant’s back….and elephant was pleased to have their company as well! :D This was painted in May’08 and I remembered I had a yearning to want to visit Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand :D..so that was why I painted these 3 friends having an outing with the elephant….because there are many elephant reserves there in Chiang Mai, where they protect these precious animals from harm. I was glad to be able to go on that trip in June’08 this year! :D / / You can view and buy my other “On A Giant’s Back” creations from my Zazzle Gallery:

My pics this evening are just a bit of a cheek- took my camera along to Vicki Lees and came back with a few shots- after almost falling in her pond trying to get a good fish shot- then stuck the camera inside the rabbits cage into her bewildered little face- but all painless, and no harm done -just hope you approve of the outcome lol !! /

Acrylic on Canvas (Original Sold) Concept: Felt an urge to paint Phoebe in a Gustave Klimt-inspired costume after reading his biography. Was curious how Phoebe would look in it. A far cry from the master’s but painting Phoebe in that was fun!

A few weeks ago I posted a pic of my boy bunny Taz! I’ve been asked what his girlfriend Savanna looks like, so here she is, in all her furry glory. A true Lionhead, her origins are a bit of a mystery as we adopted her from a rescue centre. Before we could adopt, we had to take Taz to the centre to meet up with her and make sure that they got on OK – call it a “hot date”! :o) Savanna initially chased and attacked Taz but his gentle nature quickly won her over and they soon became the best of friends. Savanna’s hobbies include thumping, chewing the walls/carpets/my fingers and eating the mail when it drops through the front door! Taz

Rabbits generally live between four and twenty years.Rabbits are ground dwellers that live in environments ranging from desert to tropical forest and wetland. Rabbits kept in a home as pets for companionship are referred to as house rabbits. They typically have an indoor pen and a rabbit-safe place to run and exercise, such as a living or family room. Rabbits are easily trained to use a litter box and can learn to come when called. Their diet typically consists of unlimited Timothy hay, a small amount of pellets, and fresh vegetables. House rabbits are quiet pets, but are unsuitable for households with small children as they are easily frightened by loud noises and can be harmed by mishandling. Domestic rabbits that are not house rabbits also often serve as companions for their owners, typically living in an easily accessible hutch outside the home.

Bunny is usually a term used to describe a rabbit or hare. The term is a diminutive of “bun”, a word of Scottish origin that in the 16th and 17th centuries was a pet name for rabbits, squirrels and sometimes young women or children. Rabbits are small mammals in the family Leporidae. They are sometimes affectionately known as bunnies or bunny rabbits, especially by children. There are seven different genera in the family classified as rabbits, including the European Rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus), cottontail rabbits (genus Sylvilagus; 13 species), and the Amami Rabbit (Pentalagus furnessi, an endangered species on Amami Oshima, Japan).Rabbits are clearly distinguished from the related hares in that rabbits are altricial, born blind and hairless; many also live underground in burrows or warrens. Indoor pet rabbit can live 6-12 years, they can even become good friends with cats and dogs.

Caring for rabbits, As with any pet, keeping a rabbit requires a commitment to care for it during its life which could be 5-10 years or longer. The commitment required includes not only routine feeding, care and time spent with the rabbit but also the provision of veterinary treatment if the rabbit becomes ill which can be costly. Although proper care will go a long way to ensuring that any rabbit remains happy and healthy there may still be times when prompt veterinary treatment is needed and once a rabbit is ill it can deteriorate quickly. However, some insurance companies do offer veterinary insurance cover for pet rabbits. Rabbits should also be vaccinated against Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (VHD) and Myxomatosis annually. A common cause of death in female rabbits (does) is uterine cancer which can often spread to other organs before it is diagnosed. This can be prevented by spaying if the rabbit is not intended for breeding and is best done when the rabbit is between 6 months and 2 years of age. Rabbits can be kept outside or indoors as they make good house pets, being easily litter trained. The decision as to where the rabbit is to be kept will affect the type of Cage or Hutch required for the rabbit.
