This is the last one I am posting today of the Low Barns Wildlife Park. It sounds rather splendid doesn’t it, it is an old gravel quarry put to good use after they had finished with it, and the wildfowl love it, as do the photographers and bird watchers, there are several hides for you to sit in and observe without being intrusive to the birds, It is very peaceful and a veritable heaven on earth. / The Buddleja is now starting to grow and it has its own little Butterfly park, so look forward to going and taking those. / I hope you have enjoyed the series just a fraction as much as I enjoyed taking them. hugs

Cattails, also known as Bullrush or Corndog grass, are wetland plants typically 1 to 7 m tall. They have spongy, strap-like leaves and starchy, creeping stems (rhizomes), and the root systems help to prevent erosion. The plants themselves are often home to many insects, birds and amphibians. They grow along lake margins and in marshes, often in dense colonies. Cattail have a wide variety of parts that are edible to humans, and can be a source of ethanol. They do not require much, if any, maintenance. I took this photo with my Canon Rebel XSI, slight editing using Lightroom 2. I found these cattails around the corner from my house, just off of the trail around Mundy Pond.

I simply love the colours of these Foxtails I took this photo at Bear River Bird Migratory Refuge in Utah USA. Everytime I look at it I feel like you can feel the wind ripple through them. This photo was taken near a pond that was covered with lily pads. It was a very windy day, and the lily pads were “flipped over” due to the high winds. The background of little red dots you see on the surface of the water is actully the underside of the lily pads. I slightly overexposed the photograph to create the look you see. Taken at Newfoundland, Canada
