  • My husband’s paternal grandmother, Tootsie, died at the age of 95. She had a sound mind and sound body and an enduring love for gardening, something she cultivated till she breathed her last. Before she died, she gave her grandchildren amaryllis bulbs and to this day, many many years after her passing on, we still have the fruits of her labors. This is one of Tootsie’s amaryllis bulbs that is about to burst into bloom, many springs after her death.

  • This is a small “slice” of my mother’s garden; she is a master gardener. Anything she plants thrives beautifully, and my father is just as good as she is. He saves watermelon and tomato seeds when he eats at restaurants, dries them, plants them, and harvests a good crop later on. What a wonder my parents are; truly their hearts are in the garden.

  • I packed a thermos, phoned a friend and spent a beautiful spring day at Araluen Botanical Gardens in Roleystone. Every year thousands of tulip bulbs are planted and each year the show of flowers is brilliant. These are the best shots of the days, I hope you like them.

  • The colour and design of the Keukenhof Gardens in Lisse, the Netherlands is astounding. In this image I wanted to have fun simply with the blocks of different coloured tulips.

  • The tulip beds of Keukenhof Gardens in the Netherlands change every year. Teams of gardeners plan the layouts years in advance and plant thousands of bulbs. The tulips bloom for two months and then everything is dug out and the process begins again.
