  • Praying for Rain
    by HollyK

    US$3.42–US$91.20

Drought Breaker As the farmer knelt down on the salty sand, / He needed rain to save his land. / The crops were wilting, the cattle all dead, / He looked around, not a word was said. The ground was dry, where is the rain? / What could stop this worthless pain? / The farmer cursed in sheer despair, / He did not have a drop to spare. A thundercloud covers the western sky, / A bolt of lightning explodes near by. / The farmer looks up and begins to pray, / Hoping that the rain will come his way. Then drip-by-drip it starts to fall, / The crystal water like a clear glass wall. / The trees and flowers all in bloom, / Then once again, gone is the gloom. The water fills the old parched creek, / The rivers bulge as the waters peak. / The mud squelches through the farmer’s dry old hands, / As he thanks the Lord for saving his land. / / By Meg Hayes Year Seven / St Mary’s Primary School / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / Silverton, New South Wales

History is a gallery of pictures in which there are few originals and many copies. / ~ Alexis de Tocqueville / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / In this image I was hoping to capture the essence of the small outback community of Silverton that is so typically Australian. Not only were the Mad Max movies made there and numerous other movies and advertisements, it is a town full of history and wonderful eccentric artists. This is Peter Brown’s gallery perched on top of a barren hillside as you drive into town. His emu caricatures are a delight! / -—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-- / Thank you to everyone in Redbubbles Outback Australia group for voting Open for Business in the top ten of their competition.

  • The Blue City II
    by Damienne Bingham

    US$3.42–US$91.20

Chefchaouen is a city in northwest Morocco. It is the chief town of the province of the same name. Chefchaouen is situated in the Rif Mountains, just inland from Tangier and Tetouan. The city was founded in 1471, as a small fortress which still exists to this day, by Moorish exiles from Spain to fight the Portuguese invasions of northern Morocco. It was known as one of the main concentrations of Moriscos and Jews who sought refuge in this mountainous city after the Spanish Reconquista in medieval times. In 1920, the Spanish seized Chefchaouen to form part of Spanish Morocco. They returned the city after the independence of Morocco in 1956. The name ‘Chefchaouen’ refers to the shapes of the mountain tops that tower over the town, that look like the two horns (chaoua) of a goat. It literally means “look at the horns”. The blue-rinsed houses and buildings, are a tradition that comes from the town’s former Jewish population. • honfleur
    by dinghysailor1

    US$2.85–US$76.00

The wonderful little normandy port of Honfleur in France at the mouth of the river Seine.(it’s best viewed LARGE for detail). To access by boat you tie up and wait for them to close the road, lift up the bridge pass through a loch and this is what awaits !(I had the good fortune to be a lastminute stand in crew on a wonderful yacht recently… huge happy sailor grins … :)))) It’s an absolutely stunning place with its rich artistic and historical heritage wonderfully preserved! It is also the place from which a Samuel de Champlain left in 1608 for the ’ New World’ and he went on to found the city of Quebec and 400th anniversary celebrations are currently underway… I might have wished to capture all sail boats in this wonderful settting… but took comfort from the fact that everyone on that huge motor launch had to take their shoes off at the door to protect the carpets ..teehee!
