  • Love the austere architecture this brings and also the chance of life, perhaps, that may go on in the distance.

  • This is a throw back to some earlier architectural photography I’ve done. I took this sometime in August, out in Richmond, off an amazingly bendy alley.

  • federation square gallery, i thought this one was interesting, enjoy…

  • Oskar was right, Civic Square comes into its own sometime around midnight.

  • This painting is watercolour on paper. This is number nine in the series on Venice. I was struck by the contrast between the deep shadow of the arched colonnade and the square outside. And just a peek of the Basilica. As it was early morning, only a few people were about and lovely long shadows. I used just a few of the very many pigeons to lead the eye away, across the square. Thank you all again so much for the numerous faves and watches. I really do appreciate these. See more of Freda’s works: / Boats / City / Fractals / Stillife / Figures / Landscape Freda’s website

A remark often attributed to Napoleon (but perhaps more correctly to Alfred de Musset) calls the Piazza San Marco “The drawing room of Europe”. It is one of the few great urban spaces in a Europe where human voices prevail over the sounds of motorized traffic, which is confined to Venice’s waterways. It is the only urban space called a piazza in Venice; the others, regardless of size, are called campi. As the central landmark and gathering place for Venice, Piazza San Marco is extremely popular with tourists, photographers, and Venetian pigeons. The Piazza originated in the 9th century as a small area in front of the original St Mark’s Basilica. It was enlarged to its present size and shape in 1177, when the Rio Batario, which had bounded it to the west, and a dock, which had isolated the Doge’s Palace from the square, were filled in. The rearrangement was for the meeting of Pope Alexander III and the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa. The Piazza has always been seen as the centre of Venice. It was the location of all the important offices of the Venetian state, and has been the seat of the archbishopric since the 19th century. It was also the focus for many of Venice’s festivals. It is a greatly popular place in Italy even today. Nikon D100 camera Sigma 28/70 lens

  • This was taken at Heritage Square in Golden CO. Heritage Square is at the base of the foothills here in Colorado. It’s filled with victorian style buildings that were once shops, the famous Alpine Slide (which is a slide that goes down a mountain and lots of things for the kids to do. Since the declining economy most of the buildings are now vacant. When I was a kid these shops were filled with lots of cool things to shop for and even some olf Ice Cream and Candy shops…those were the days! / 3 shot HDR processed in Photomatix and then enhanced in LR / Mr Nikon D60 DSLR /
