The transcendental art of fire dancing, combined with a backdrop of stark, urban-industrial desolation. / The background represents the state of one’s life (like the inside of their mind) and the subject twirling fire represents the transmuting of this apathy of existence into the realization that there is so much more to life and the Universe than what is going on in their head.

Couldn’t resist this old, abandoned building in Williamstown, Melbourne. Not a straight line to be seen, peeling paint, graffiti – and such character! /

This beautiful old building is located on Parramatta Road very close to Sydney Uni and Broadway. I love the graceful lines of the structure and am grateful that when it was done up and converted into luxury apartments that the exterior of the building was left untouched. The harsh lines of the windows cutting into the old signwriting make this a real visual treat and an icon on the way into to town. Taken with infrared film using a very low rent battered old analouge camera while standing on a dustbin in the servo over the other side of Parramatta road. Hope you like my building.

This collection of Urban Landscapes is drawn from a larger body of work called Darkscapes. They are moody evocative invitations into mystery and imagination taken from the ordinary things that make up the fabric of city life. Beauty is all around us if only we take the time to notice it. We all look but maybe we don’t all see. This collection of images is a way for me to share what I see with others. I really hope that you enjoy them.

“Always glancing skywards wishing for the brief appearance of a bird, I started discovering nests built in unusual yet very convenient places from the bird’s point of view. / / In a display of urban adaptation, these nests follow the shape of the element containing them, in most cases, huge billboard letters of the round and cosy type.” / / / Artist statement / My photographs are not enhanced; they represent the true nature and colours of the subjects as captured by the lens. I never lure my animated subjects to come close to me: spontaneity is the key. / / ========================================================= / All proceeds from the sale of this piece of artwork will be donated to: / / Migratory Birds of the Great Lakes / / Wetland conservation is key to the survival of the Sparrow. / / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-——- / Carmen, creator of Art for Conservation
