  • Taken at Monsalvat in Eltham, Victoria, Australia. I couldn’t resist this approach as the old house begged for treatment and a dark and moody atmosphere. Hadn’t been here since I went there for a wedding as a young child, this approach to the image is sort of what I remember the place being like! HDR from 3 exposures in Photomatix, Adobe Lightroom conversion to Antique Light and then birds added in Adobe Photoshop CS3. • Oil painting on canvas (original sold) I painted this scene of an Irish village several years ago, adapted from an old photograph dating from probably the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. The man with the cart is probably a trader, the young woman looks on while the elderly folk take in the sun and watch the activity in the village. Interesting to see the various buildings, from poor thatched cottages to well built stone (shops?) and wealthy mansions. In Ireland today, many of these building would still exist. I live in an old cottage which once had a thatched roof and probably looked pretty much like the one in the painting. The slate roofs can still be seen in some places and the shops and stores still look very much the same… double glazed windows replace the old wooden frames and inside its very modern but walk through any old Irish village or town and you will see that the old buildings are still there. Driving through an old village is a nightmare… the road is narrow and will swerve because, as in this painting, a building could jut out into the road. Slow down world!! Bring back the donkey and cart, I say!!! :-)

  • Composite of multiple images of a derelict site in Eastern Washington. I wanted to use the images in some way, but it wasn’t until a model from ModelMeyhem offered to let me use this pic in one of my ‘creations’ that it came together. The descrepancy between her dress and manner….and the background just seemed to work to suggest an amusing anecdote…..Plus I love her posture….Thanks to Laura W for her image…...

  • SOLD ! – Small Framed Print – Anonymous Buyer MUCH BETTER VIEWING EXPERIENCE VIEWED LARGER Thanks for dropping in your viewings, comments and if i’m lucky FAVOURITES are greatly appreciated. The Queen Victoria Building is currently undergoing a facelift at $37.5 / million , one of the features is upgrading the paintwork to victorian period colours. This image shows “The Grand Staircase* of Sydneys Grand Queen Victoria Building, and is an example of how grand old buildings can be restored ans still be used as money making concerns, in this case a grand shopping experience The Queen Victoria Building, now affectionately known as the QVB, was designed by George McRae and completed in 1898, replacing the original Sydney markets on the site. Built as a monument to the long reigning monarch, construction took place in dire times, as Sydney was in a severe recession. The elaborate Romanesque architecture was specially planned for the grand building so the Government could employ many out-of-work craftsmen – stonemasons, plasterers, and stained window artists – in a worthwhile project. Originally, a concert hall, coffee shops, offices, showrooms, warehouses and a wide variety of tradespeople, such as tailors, mercers, hairdressers and florists, were accommodated. The QVB fills an entire city block bound by George, Market, York and Druitt Streets. The dominant feature is the mighty centre dome, consisting of an inner glass dome and an exterior copper- sheathed dome. Glorious stained glass windows and splendid / architecture endure throughout the building and an original 19th century staircase sits alongside the dome. Every detail has been faithfully restored, including arches, pillars, balustrades and the intricate tiled floors thus maintaining the integrity of the building. / The visual message of Sydney’s coat of arms, on the cartwheel stained glass window, is that the beehive depicts business, the sailing ship – trade, and the dolphins – the harbour. Panel 1, on the left hand side, represents the Council of the City of Sydney, and symbols of architecture, while the letters I.G.B. on panel 3, on the right, represent Ipoh Gardens Berhad, the Malaysian company who restored the QVB. The symbols are of property developers – the builders. The bottom central panel represents the heraldic symbol of a finished building and the joining of two hands denotes the fusing of two cultures. There are many interesting and charming exhibitions and attractions throughout the building, along with portraits of the Queen. There is also a letter from Queen Elizabeth II to the Citizens of Sydney to be opened and read by the Lord Mayor of Sydney in the year 2085. Outside the QVB, on Town Hall Place, facing The Town Hall are the Royal Wishing Well and Queen Victoria’s statue. • My Website Been away for a few days and managed to shoot some landscapes. / Sorry for not catching up with everyone’s work but will try to catch up over the next day or so :) Solitude Standing Solitude stands by the window / She turns her head as I walk in the room / I can see by her eyes she’s been waiting / Standing in the slant of the late afternoon And she turns to me with her hand extended / Her palm is split with a flower with a flame Solitude stands in the doorway / And I’m struck once again by her black silhouette / By her long cool stare and her silence / I suddenly remember each time we’ve met And she turns to me with her hand extended / Her palm is split with a flower with a flame And she says “I’ve come to set a twisted thing straight” / And she says “I’ve come to lighten this dark heart” / And she takes my wrist, I feel her imprint of fear / And I say “I’ve never thought of finding you here” I turn to the crowd as they’re watching / They’re sitting all together in the dark in the warm / I wanted to be in there among them / I see how their eyes are gathered into one And then she turns to me with her hand extended / Her palm is split with a flower with a flame And she says “I’ve come to set a twisted thing straight” / And she says”l’ve come to lighten this dark heart” / And she takes my wrist, I feel her imprint of fear / And I say “I’ve never thought of finding you here” Solitude stands in the doorway / And I’m struck once again by her black silhouette / By her long cool stare and her silence / I suddenly remember each time we’ve met And she turns to me with her hand extended / Her palm is split with a flower with a flame Suzanne Vega

  • A long exposure of The Great Court in the British Museum, London.

  • Sacre Coeur, Paris. The amazingly original basilica is located in Montmartre, leading to the highest point of Paris city. First constructed in 1875, it was not completed until 1914, due to a problematic law system that almost stopped construction entirely. Only saved by a loophole, construction finally continued to the end. I didn’t get to spend as much time here as I would normally like to, but the climb to the top of the tower was worth it for the incredible view of the city below. Original shot layered twice, with 3 textures, colour altering of each layer, blending of layers, further colour altering and an omni light effect.
