I had to to into the city last week to organize some detail regarding an upcoming exhibition and afterwards I wandered back to Circular Quay and took some snaps of the wonderful towers of glass and stone that dominate that part of the city. Later on I processed the film I had shot in every so slightly oxidized film developer which has given me the most strangely odd texture to the final images….. I just love the way there are so many points to intervene with analouge…. sometimes that’s a bad thing and you lose everything but sometimes the risks are worth it and a really unexpected but interesting result takes place….. like in this shot and the next few I upload. I love strong shapes in architecture and the way that you can see patterns all around in the built environment…... the image is of the roof line of the Sydney Sofitel Hotel in Philip Street Sydney. The building is actually more of a horseshoe shape but no matter… I love it for its strong but defiantly non towering presence in this forest of megabuildings down by the harbour. /

the next in my dark city building series…. this is the same black granite building in / Sydney’s CBD as in Tilt but in this image I’ve caught it shapeshifting into it’s own reflection on the towering glass ediface opposite it…. the dreadful developing has really become fully obvious in this shot but I think it adds some thing mysterious and unreal to these photographs of the city…..

yesterday I uploaded an odd archictural shot of the Sydney Sofitel Hotel which is in the CBD of central Sydney only a couple of blocks back from the harbour….. today I’m going to upload some more of these strange over exposed and wildly processed analouge images. This one is taken at the end of the road were the Sofitel stands and while standing waiting for the lights to change I just looked straight up from where I was standing right under the street sign and I just had to take a quick shot…..the angles are all competing and the weird processing all combine to make this more about being a strangely compelling cubist abstract some how….... I’ve seen this cluster of buildings like a zillion times over the years so it’s remarkabale how just changing your point of view seems to release a whole new vista …...

Took a drive out to Las Vegas yesterday. This is one of the many shots I got of this world famous city. This is the Mandalay Bay Hotel. At the very south end of the Las Vegas Strip sits the beautiful and shining Mandalay Bay. The theme of Mandalay Bay Hotel Las Vegas is tropical elegance mixed with hip, chic, eclectic vibes. Around every corner, excitement and new discoveries await. Mandalay Bay Hotel offers restaurants that will surely stir your taste buds. There is Aureole, complete and equipped with a wine tower and angel who goes up with cables to retrieve your wine, Trattoria del Lupo, the southwest flavors of Border Grill, House of Blues, and Fleur de Lys. Although not keying on big name chefs, Mandalay’s restaurants surely boast big flavors and quality dining. For the adventurous, there is the Shark Reef aquarium attraction where you can get up close and personal with octopus, fish, and sharks. In total, the Shark Reef features over 100 species of animals. Truly an educational experience, you will not find another one like it in Las Vegas. Exploring Las Vegas Las Vegas (Spanish: “The Meadows”) is the most populous city in the state of Nevada, the seat of Clark County, and an internationally renowned major resort city for the gaming industry, shopping, and entertainment. Las Vegas, billed as The Entertainment Capital of the World, is famous for the number of large casino resorts and their associated entertainment. The city’s tolerance for various forms of adult entertainment earned it the title of Sin City, and this image has made Las Vegas a popular setting for films and television programs. Outdoor lighting displays are everywhere on the Las Vegas Strip and are seen elsewhere in the city as well; as seen from space, Las Vegas is the brightest city on earth. Established in 1905, Las Vegas officially became a city in 1911. With the growth that followed, at the close of the century Las Vegas was the most populous American city founded in the 20th century (a distinction held by Chicago in the 19th century). It was the 28th most populous city in the United States during the 2000 census. The population of the city was most recently estimated at 558,880 and the Las Vegas metropolitan area exceeds 1.8 million residents. The Balmoral hotel in Edinburgh, Scotland. Originally opened in 1902 it was designed by architect W. Hamilton Beattie and was known as the North British Hotel, a traditional railway hotel built for the North British Railway adjacent to their Waverley Station. It kept the same name until the late 1980s when it was renamed the Balmoral Hotel after refurbishment, despite being located over 100 miles south of Balmoral Castle. For travellers arriving by train, the hotel provided comfortable and elegant lodgings, before they continued their journeys. The building’s architecture is Victorian, influenced by the traditional Scottish baronial style. The hotel is located in the very heart of the city at 1 Princes Street, the main shopping area overlooking Edinburgh Castle. The Balmoral is a landmark in its own right, its clock tower can be seen from all around. Given that the hotel is adjacent to the station, the clock is always set two minutes fast to ensure that people don’t miss their trains. In February 2007 it was confirmed that author J.K. Rowling finished the last book in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at this hotel. Rowling left a signed statement written on a marble bust of Hermes in her room saying; “JK Rowling finished writing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in this room (552) on 11th Jan 2007”.
