Looking at the Sydney CBD from the rooftop parking at Broadway Shopping Centre. In the distance you can see the smole coming in from backburning operations on the north side of the City. Please also visit my website alexkess.com . Cheers and Thanks, Alex

Taken at Monsalvat in Eltham, Victoria, Australia. I couldn’t resist this approach as the old house begged for treatment and a dark and moody atmosphere. Hadn’t been here since I went there for a wedding as a young child, this approach to the image is sort of what I remember the place being like! HDR from 3 exposures in Photomatix, Adobe Lightroom conversion to Antique Light and then birds added in Adobe Photoshop CS3. I actually took this shot while “You’re not the only one” by Ammonia was playing on my Ipod. Great song fitting image. “Cuts like pins and needles, miles and miles away. I took the shot through the Windscreen of my car. I really like the effect, it seems quite sad and intimidating.

The Titanic smashed into the iceberg. / Screams broke out along with utter pandemonium. / Nevertheless, the men with their instruments in their tidy little suits, sat upright, swallowed hard, and with swift acceptance began playing the most heartfelt rendition of “Nearer My God To Thee” they’d ever played or known before… / / and then all was silent. / / sold: 1 mounted print / (to RB member) / / / / /

A little color in the Mojave Desert.

Image is of the Whalehead Hunt Club in Currituck, North Carolina. Currituck lighthouse on the left, active Osprey’s nest on far left chimney. I currently consider this my “masterpiece”, the colors, the sky, the reflection, the fact that the lighthouse is also visible, etc. HDR image of multiple bracketed images merged into one. This is one of my favorite places to go to, it is my sense of “place”. Click on the thumbnail below for a view of the back porch / Sadly, just went down there after Hurricane Noel (11/3/07) and the Osprey’s Nest is no longer there, as seen by clicking here: /

This tower was photographed at the other side looking up at it, standing on the steps leading down into the terraced gardens! / Rivington Pike is found near Winter Hill in Lancashire! It is worth the visit!

Aren’t you glad this isn’t your home?? My husband and I drove by this abandoned house the other day. This is the first time I’ve been able to get inside one. Usually I’m toting the kids, and can only get a quick shot of the outside. Oh man, this place was TRASHED! But so fun to photograph! Unfortunantly, I didn’t have a tripod, nor was there really anything to use as one, so only a couple of my HDR shots didn’t turn out a complete blury. HDR This piece was featured in Dilapidated Buildings group, Eerie Lighting group and A Photographer’s Craft. THANK YOU!! See More of this series.

The beautiful Mortlock Library – North Terrace Adelaide, early morning shot. Such amazing lighting in this building, especially following the wall lines on the ground floor.

Sorry for not posting many shots over the past few weeks and not leaving any replies. I have been really busy with work and work around the house. I can tell you the past few days have been the worst choice to do some work around the Garden. Anyway here are two HDR – Sunrise shots from a few weeks ago taken from Victoria Road near the old White Bay Power Station. I hope you like it. Please also visit my website alexkess.com and my photoblog . Cheers and Thanks, Alex

The Rotunda was started in 1739, the year of Thomas Wentworth’s death and completed by his son William Wentworth in 1742. It is a round Ionick temple, based on the temple of Hercules at Tivoli, near Rome. / I remember visiting this in the grounds of Stainborough Castle, South Yorkshire with my Dad when i was about 9 or 10 years old and went back this weekend to find restoration has been started, as i remember it was in a bad state with no roof and overgrown with trees and no door so you could walk inside, as you can see it has had some much needed care and attention.

Your breath comes in gasps as you rush away from the crooked mansion and its gold-mad inhabitants. I just need a breath of fresh air to clear my head you think. Feeling trapped by the surrounding gloomy swamp you look back at the manor and it seems to glow evilly in the stormy night… you catch a ghostly glimpse of Rudy Styne- but how could that be? You just ran outside after seeing your best friend Lillian stuffing his dead body into a shadowy closet! You squeeze your eyes shut, shudder, and shake your head- when you look again he is gone… For a murder mystery Boredom Competition and adding a little more diversity to my work- have to keep people on their toes :) Created from 3 exposures of the building on a clear blue day and one of the tree and moon, took forever in photoshop :) See the second image (unless you’re not a fan of violence) The Butcher and the third and final part of the story Empty /

Wandering through the back streets of the old town was heavenly, at every turn there were wonders to behold, the long things hanging outside the shop are actually candles.

Something a little different from me here. A3 shot HDR of the old Convent, Penola Road Mt Gambier this afternoon with powerful stormy clouds in the background. When processing this the effects were quite different than my normal HDR’s but I liked the outcome even though it is almost comic book style. Thought I’d throw it up here for comment both good and bad to see what others think. Not something I’d like to do often but the different style interested me. Canon 400D – 18- 55 lens at 22 CIR polarising filter, processed in Photomatix.
