  • Birmingham skyline reflected in the windows of another building

  • Window in Liverpool which revolves giving a 3D effect. The most daring piece of public art ever commissioned in the UK, Turning the Place Over is artist Richard Wilson’s most radical intervention into architecture to date, turning a building in Liverpool’s city centre literally inside out. One of Wilson’s very rare temporary works, Turning the Place Over colonises Cross Keys House, Moorfields. It is on a light sensor and will run during daylight hours. Click here to see the location on Google Maps Co-commissioned by the Liverpool Culture Company and Liverpool Biennial, co-funded by the Northwest Regional Development Agency and The Northern Way, and facilitated by Liverpool Vision, the project is a stunning trailblazer for Liverpool’s Year as European Capital of Culture 2008, and the jewel in the crown of the Culture Company’s public art programme. Richard Wilson is one of Britain’s most renowned sculptors. He is internationally celebrated for his interventions in architectural space that draw heavily for their inspiration from the worlds of engineering and construction. Turning the Place Over consists of an 8 metres diameter ovoid cut from the façade of a building in Liverpool city centre and made to oscillate in three dimensions. The revolving façade rests on a specially designed giant rotator, usually used in the shipping and nuclear industries, and acts as a huge opening and closing ‘window’, offering recurrent glimpses of the interior during its constant cycle during daylight hours. The construction programme started in February 2007 and involves the careful deconstruction of the façade across three floors of the building, which is then reconstructed and fixed to the enormous pivot installed at the heart of the building. This astonishing feat of engineering stuns audiences on many levels. Disturbing and disorientating from a distance, from close-up passers-by have a thrilling experience as the building rotates above them.

  • Another view of perhaps another unnoticed part of the south bank in London.. or at least unnoticed for me until few days ago.. I like the view from here and the perspective and composition do for me !

  • London, England !!!

  • View of one of the buildings at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. /   /

  • I have no idea what this big chained box outside of the pumping station, but it does intrigue me. I am planning to head along to this place and get some shots inside once it opens again in the spring, so i shall be inquiring then as to what the purpose of this was. Nevertheless it makes for an interesting photo at least :)

  • This is an extreme close up of the locker box outside of the pumping station, as you can see the door was slightly ajar, and the chain loose enough to allow me to have a peep inside but still i couldn’t get any idea of what the use of the box was.

  • Hi Location :: Milnthorpe, Lancashire / ............................................................. With living and growing up in Ireland for the best part of 30 years i was always told that England was lush with greens all over the countryside. Now that i reside in Lancashire i have seen this to be true. I have spent the last 2 years travelling around the UK on a purpose to document my travels through pictures and on my travels, i decided to put together a portfolio called Roaming England. This portfolio is based only on the English Countryside and displayed in full colour, after all, the English Countryside is saturated with lush greens, yellows, reds and of course deep blue skies ( well on a good day anyway lol ) :) So my journey was to document my perspective of the English Countryside through my own eye’s and interputation! This is what the English Countryside offers me. The stories growing up have come true to life, right before my very eye’s, for me to capture, to keep for life and to share with others….. ........this is my view on the English Countryside. / ............................................................................................................................................ • St Catherine’s Chapel is a small chapel situated above the village of Abbotsbury in Dorset, England. It is thought to have been built in about 1400 as a Pilgrim chapel for Abbotsbury Abbey. Its position on the top of a hill about 80 m (260 ft) high, overlooking the coast means that it was a prominent feature for seafarers. / The medieval strip lynchets etched into the side of the hill are known locally as the Chapel Rings. I liked the effect almost duplicated in the clouds. / The chapel appears briefly in the Powell and Pressburger film, The Small Back Room. / St Catherine’s Chapel has a local tradition of ‘wishing’. This involves using the niches in the chapel walls to ‘post’ prayers to the saint asking for her help. This tradition still goes on today.

  • / A look along the side of The Gherkin, 30 St Mary Axe, London, to see the buildings that stand behind. / this was a very early morning shot, just after sunrise. The almost triangular slotches of light on the buildings are from the sun reflected off the triangular windows of The Gherkin.

  • Abstract Macro Photography – Urban Art very close up / solder The solder is attached to some steel, which is now attached to the derelict ‘Leeds International swimming pool’, as security, to keep people out of the building. / There are large sheets of steel over all the windows and doors of the ‘retired’ ‘Swimming Pool’ / Each window/ door has around 10 little solderes each, so there was LOTS of individual mini pieces of abstract art! / 28.10.09 – Pool now demolished Canon 350D / Canon Lens 18-55mm / Focal length – 37mm / F/5.6 / Exposure – 1/20 sec

  • Woodhouse is an area/ district on the border of Leeds City Centre. / This is the mutli-storey car park. Im very hesitant to stop around this area of Leeds, let alone get my camera out and take photographs. / This area of Woodhouse, Hyde Park and Little London adjasent to Leeds Met is a mismatch of inner city junkies, rough ‘locals’ and students, and is plagued with crime. / Although it is a lot better than what is was a few years ago, it is still not a very ‘safe’ place to be.
