  • The Birds revisited
    by Alistair Wilson

    US$3.71–US$98.80

Taken at Monsalvat in Eltham, Victoria, Australia. I couldn’t resist this approach as the old house begged for treatment and a dark and moody atmosphere. Hadn’t been here since I went there for a wedding as a young child, this approach to the image is sort of what I remember the place being like! HDR from 3 exposures in Photomatix, Adobe Lightroom conversion to Antique Light and then birds added in Adobe Photoshop CS3. • push upstairs
    by dimsim

    US$5.42–US$144.40

Bloke walking up stairs of a block of flats at Kangaroo Point in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, carrying a bag. A photo from a photography class assignment in 1994, and one of my faves ever. Dark and enigmatic, but emblematic of single-minded purpose, metaphor of life’s journey. Dig the repeating cellular and tooth elements. He is walking into the maw of the beast. Dig likewise, the directionality implied by the arrow-heads formed, big, black arrows opposing the man’s forward movement, light arrows formed of concrete faces, buoying him upward, corresponding dark spaces threaten to drag back down. Counterposed forces, on the stairs themselves grinding on each other like shark-teeth set to lacerate a surfer’s legs. Somehow he stays afloat. Does he have any choice? Up, turn. Up, turn. His path is layed out for him. Where does it lead? Ultimately, back down—Newton, 1687. Up is a dead end. I could shit on like this for hours. There should be more like this. Please take more? Hand-processed b&w photo, scanned and digitally restored.

  • A (I believe) typical house on the Greek island Santorini. It is a ‘tuned’ version of this according to suggestions in the For Critique forum.

  • Just lately I’ve been having a nice time posting all sorts of random things for all sorts of distracted reasons and thats been lots of fun. But time to run another series across the screens of bubbleland…..and that can only mean Infrared images are coming up. I love the dark and mysterious light that can be inticed into being with B/W infrared film…. and yes all my IR work is done the old fashioned way with film….. Kodak High Speed Infrared film to be exact. This particular series was shot in Sydney some years ago at the old Reschs site on Lachlan Street as it was being demolished to make way for a new housing development in the inner city. I was fascinated with the destruction of all the old buildings and how the hidden backs of structures of were revealed by the rolling waves of demolition. This urban landscape of ruined reality and brand new dreams set in the piles of rubble took on a profoundly mysterious atmosphere and became a landscape setting suitable for colonization by the imagination…...hence the title of the series…..Landscape for Orson Wells….. this one is the first and its the very corner of a building that no longer exists…. except in this photo…..... so it can now be a building anywere you fancy it to be and it can signify any thing that you the viewer would like it to mean…....

  • Across the Street
    by Caroline Fournier

    US$3.99–US$106.40

Every morning I go in to work and take the same route, that is, walk from the bus stop, go up the same flight of stairs and walk down the same hallway to get to my office. And every morning from that hallway window, I see this very building and pretty much every day (unless it’s a pretty grim day or raining) I think about how pretty the reflections of the clouds and sun really look (is it obvious yet that very simple things make me happy?). So it is pretty obvious that this would eventually make it as one of my photos. Needless to say that I have adjusted the contrast levels to make it a little more dramatic but bottom line, it’s just a picture of the building across the street … / Feature Out of the Blue in September 2008
