Had to travel to Adelaide for work, was trapped inside all day, though managed to escape for about 30 minutes but being in the city this is as close to seeing the sunset as I got.

and yes, people love clouds, but even more, we looove a sunset. especially when it’s original. an original sunset painting turned into an electronic glow. (altered via photoshop) and in breaking news-this painting (the original) sold at the weekend exhibition! Gold!

I thought there was no hope for this pic until I converted it to Sepia! Just changed the whole feeling of it. Taken at sunset at the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. The Mosque is still under construction but when finished, will be able to hold up to 10 000 worshippers. It is pretty impressive with huge turrets and gorgeous blown glass windows.

The sun sets on this old house, in more ways than one. I believe it shall soon be no more, it’s life given for a a new housing estate. No-one lives there now, but soon there’ll be hundreds of little blocks with little houses and not-so-little morgages!

We made our structures not to compliment nature, but for it to compliment us… Taken in the Sydney CBD on September 11th 2007… people must have been a little worried me so utterly fascinated with the building tops with my camera at the ready that day giggle oops.

I began this series with the idea I’d create something for my boyfriend’s office. The initial efforts were photos of clouds (see earlier images) but I felt it was a great opportunity to do more painting. The plan was to have something that expresses a feeling of nature, wide open spaces and strong, bold colour. Their space needed something masculine and simple, also. Previously, much of the paintings that had been completed were done for the home, for the interior space, with a gentle, decorative sensibility. An office requires imagery which is a little more robust. I had been getting out and about, looking at different exhibitions and artists, and enjoyed the way artists like Minnie Pwerle used big, expressive strokes, rather than precious, little ones. I enjoyed the sense of freedom. Deciding I also wanted to create an ‘expanse’, it is mindfully created simply as an abstract painting. It is without reference to Sugar Bag country or any specific area at all. It is difficult not to be influenced by the colours we see surrounding us-I love bright colour and having spent a year with a teacher who had Aboriginal heritage who both encouraged us to be more aware of Aboriginal history and simultaneously scared us so much about copyright and the infringements on people’s stories and country, I have been extremely sensitive about the journey and the influence. I have done a fair amount of reading on the subject, spoken to the cultural officer at the AGNSW who aassures me as long as you are telling your own story, it’s OK. It also inspired me to teach Aborignal history to my students, as I was as a child and reflects a connection I have always felt to the sky, the earth and the spirit within.

Sometimes those days come where your like… I really should take a photo of this shouldn’t I? So I walked across to the road from the bus stop where I was waiting to be picked up. Seeing the sunset through the 80-200 peaked me out. I shot until the card was full and this is the first of 3 images… The special things in this shot 1. If you look closely at the sun it’s setting behind a building and the 2 towers actually make the sun look like it has horns. 2. The guy riding his bike past just at that moment… 3. The stop light and rich colour in the frame.

Powlett River is the spot our illustrous government has told us we will build the southern hemispheres largest desalination plant. There has been no consultation or environmental impact studies just an announcement of what will happen. Needless to say this move to convert a wilderness and pastoral area into a pollution guzzling industrial estate is not being well recieved. To run this $3,200,000,000 plant an additional 1,200,000,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases will be released into the atmosphere each year plus it will pollute the local marine environment at a rate of 7,000litres a second which will obviously alter and possibly (some say definitely) destroy the local marine environment. This will in turn force the Philip Island Seal and Fairy Penguin (Parade) population to look for better feeding grounds risking the $75,000,000 a year that tourists spend visiting these natural attractions. On top of that the site for the plant as you can see is absolutely gorgeous (it’s 200m from where I took this photo).
