This ruin just outside Burra in South Australia was made famous as the cover art of Midnight Oil’s classic 1986 album Diesel and Dust / While there are many ruins in this area – the gateway to the outback – this oneis the most photogenic due to its classic shape and relative completeness. The rolling hills in the background also make for a picturesque scene. Just don’t be tempted to jump the fence as an ominous “No Trespassing” sign leaves you in no doubt this is an inhospitable area not only for the original settlers, but pesky tourists as well, especially those with cameras!

Landscape of the Lord St. Malo outside of Estes Park, Colorado. One of thee most photographed Churches in all of North America, I was VERY excited and VERY anxious to get this shot when I headed up to Rocky Mountain National Park. I was hoping that the weather would clear because behind this, covered in the clouds, is Mt. Meeker and it is just a stunning view with the mountains! I have to admit though, I am really happy how this came out. And if anything, it is quite unique compared to how it is usually shot. I suppose that is a good thing when it comes to photographing something that is such an icon. Generally, people walk down by the pond and shoot from there, I stayed up top on the side of the road, thus giving a different perspective than most. Also, the weather. It was dramatic as all heck! You could smell the rain as it came in, dark, but with so much drama in the sky. I was pretty lucky to get a shot like this. Ya, I am happy with it! Angled shot taken inside the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool. Really enjoy finding new angles and views within this building and its a great place to practice my photography. / . / Spent a lot of time with the position and cropping of this image to produce the desired look. / . / Your comments always help. / . / ste / . / Location: The Lady Chapel / . / The first part of the Cathedral to be completed and consecrated for worship was the Lady Chapel. The style of this lovely Chapel, which stands at the far south east corner of the Cathedral, is more elaborate than the main body of the Cathedral in a way which reflects its date and the influence of G F Bodley who was, at that time, working with the Cathedral architect.

I was having lunch with my beautiful wife the other day at a rather unusual place, right across the road from my office. Never been there before… it was at the Northern Metropolitan Institute of Tafe and they have the special room on the third floor where trainee chefs get to practice their cooking skills and serve to the unsuspecting public. This was the view virtually from the table I was sitting at… the view was way better than the food!

Composite of multiple images of a derelict site in Eastern Washington. I wanted to use the images in some way, but it wasn’t until a model from ModelMeyhem offered to let me use this pic in one of my ‘creations’ that it came together. The descrepancy between her dress and manner….and the background just seemed to work to suggest an amusing anecdote…..Plus I love her posture….Thanks to Laura W for her image…...

Featured in the European Everyday Life group, 17th December, 2008. / Featured in the Nautical group, 16th December, 2008. Located near Portesham village in Dorset, England, on the highest point of the Blackdown area is Hardy’s Monument. There are excellent views of the Dorset coast from this location. / This is not a memorial to the poet Thomas Hardy – it is to Vice Admiral, Sir Thomas Masterman Hardy (1769 – 1839). Hardy lived in the nearby village of Portesham. During the battle of Trafalgar in 1805, Hardy served as Lord Nelson’s flag captain. / The monument is 72 feet high.

Suisinish is an abandoned village reached after a rough hour- long walk from Kilbride, near Torrin, Isle of Skye. / This old cottage is too modern to have been one of the dwellings where the folk were evicted to make way for the sheep, which were more profitable to the greedy landowners of the time. Many of the families were separated, and forced to emigrate to America, Canada, and Australia. / I cannot begin to feel their anguish. / There are many ruins scattered around the Brae (hillside), evidence of a thriving, close-knit community torn apart by human greed. Maybe this bulding was built early in the twentieth century, I have no idea and can find no information. / Back to the present….. / There was quite a wait for some usable light, a chilly fierce wind was blowing, rain was brewing, nothing new ! We sat in the shelter of one of those deserted ruins, eating a cheese piece, ( sandwich ) and a cheering cup of hot coffee from the thermos, reflecting on how ‘they’ lived then, compared to us nowadays, and watching the sheep that are now the only inhabitants of this beautiful place. / Rowan trees were planted in the belief they kept evil spirits away, and it is considered very bad luck to cut one down, even today ! This cottage is surrounded by them, I guess the magic didn’t work. A three shot HDR. CanonEOS 40D mounted on tripod, iso 100, auto wb, f22, RAW files converted in Photomatix, and touched up in Adobe CS3. / A little Orton also applied to ‘pop’ the texture of the stone. / A slight vignette added.
