  • honfleur
    by dinghysailor1

    US$2.85–US$76.00

The wonderful little normandy port of Honfleur in France at the mouth of the river Seine.(it’s best viewed LARGE for detail). To access by boat you tie up and wait for them to close the road, lift up the bridge pass through a loch and this is what awaits !(I had the good fortune to be a lastminute stand in crew on a wonderful yacht recently… huge happy sailor grins … :)))) It’s an absolutely stunning place with its rich artistic and historical heritage wonderfully preserved! It is also the place from which a Samuel de Champlain left in 1608 for the ’ New World’ and he went on to found the city of Quebec and 400th anniversary celebrations are currently underway… I might have wished to capture all sail boats in this wonderful settting… but took comfort from the fact that everyone on that huge motor launch had to take their shoes off at the door to protect the carpets ..teehee! • Harbour Views
    by Naomi Frost

    US$3.99–US$106.40

Took a little trip to Sydney this weekend. Dropped the boys with Nan & Pop and I went and did the tourist thing. Would you believe that on Saturday I walked across the Sydney Harbour Bridge for the first time! Had to get the major tourist icons in infrared…of course. Exposure: 25sec

  • I travelled through Buenos Aries recently on my way to Antarctica and I took a pretty eclectic range of camera’s with me. One of them was a little Russian Lomo which is a small failed spy camera much loved by artist/photographers everywere for its strange effects. Anyway it didn’t perform so well in the real cold but I took some interesting shots with it on my first day in Argentina. This one is of a very very tall and narrow building in the downtown area of the city. Shot with Iford HP5 and with minimal post production.

  • BETTER VIEWED LARGER Cockatoo Island is listed under the National Trust and has been returned tto the people not the developers ! It is now a very interesting tourist destination on Sydney Harbour, there is even camping on the island. The history of Cockatoo Island is emblematic of Australia’s history. Before the arrival of Europeans, it was undoubtedly used by the first Australians, the Aboriginal tribes of Sydney’s coastal region. In 1839 it was chosen as the site of a new penal establishment by the Governor of the colony of New South Wales, Sir George Gipps. Convicts were put to work building prison barracks, a military guardhouse and official residences. Not long after, the maritime history of Cockatoo Island began with the construction of the Fitzroy Dock by convicts. For the next 50 years the island was both a place of incarceration and the site of the colony’s ship repair and shipbuilding activities. During the twentieth century maritime activity grew, notably during World War I and World War II. For a time, Cockatoo Island was the largest shipbuilding yard in Australia. When the shipyard closed in 1992, Cockatoo Island lay dormant for a decade until the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust was established and given the responsibility of revitalising this significant site. The Trust is rehabilitating the island and creating one of the most unusual places to visit in the city. See More From the Cockatoo Island Series / Cockatoo Island Series
