Just love the direction Melbourne is taking in its cityscape and we owe it all to these majestic cranes. Thought I’d document their existence, hopefully in an aesthetic way, as they too provide great visuals within themselves as well as the work they do.

From a local construction site a friend works on. I was actually there to take a few pics of the 200t crane loading wall panels, but they’re so slow! So I went exploring.

This image was taken on the 2nd or 3rd floor of the Amex Building in New York. People were drawn to the view of the rebuilding of Ground Zero and were speaking so softly or not at all out of respect for the devestation that took place here. Concurrent to the silent viewing is the incredible acitivity of rebuilding taking place in the area itself. Originally the glass wall seen here was opaque (marble, i think) but when the repairs were made to the building the marble was removed so that people could view ground zero. I think it helped people feel as though they could connect a little with what had taken place.

They are renovating this old butchers shop in Pego, (A small town near us.) This was all the rubbish from it. I like the rocker on top at the end of the skip.

Sitting on a besser block window sill, birds chat about human ‘progress’ – the ‘roading’ of the planet and the trend to build with ‘clean’ surfaces (meaning no garden) Streamlined air conditioned besser block units are now replacing local wooden Cairns ‘queenslanders’ (tropical houses built on stilts) The image in the middle is the artist sleeping at night – and this is when some develop/demolish/ers are known to strike. Unaware of the besser block eye’s perusal of developing potential, she sleeps on… This piece was created and sold for postcard fundraiser cairns regional gallery 2003.

I drove past this view often before finally going back with camera and tripod in hand to capture it.
