Tenth in the series, this shot was taken in Chaco Canyon at Pueblo Bonito. Around 750 AD, Chaco Canyon was built and strongly influenced by the trade with the Toltecs, with evidence of extensive trading in turquoise, pipestone, shells, carved flutes, mosaic baskets, fine pottery, copper bells and Macaw feathers. Archaeologists have discovered at least 150 great house styles outside of Chaco Canyon which was known as the greatest settlement in North America. Over one million blocks of sandstone weighing some 30,000 tons, just to construct Pueblo Bonito. Along its back perimeter, the rooms stood 5 stories high and at its peak had over 700 rooms, 37 kivas, two community kivas and covered over 4 1/2 acres.
Tom Davies. Red Letters. How do you want to be remembered? What would you want other people to say about how you lived your life? Go ahead; think about it. What would be written in your obituary? That you were a good person? That you worked hard? That you were a successful businessman or woman? What would it say about the impact you had on others? For many Americans, life is defined essentially by our “stuff”. By the house we live in and by the car we drive. By the diploma we hang on the wall and the size of our bank account. But we weren’t created so we could simply amass wealth and influence. We were created for something more. To live for something bigger than ourselves. Solomon wrestled with this very issue. Though he had everything this world could offer him, he found himself still wanting. It wasn’t enough. He wasn’t satisfied. He wrote, “He [God] has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end” (Eccl. 3:11 NIV). The story of the rich young ruler adds further insight into this issue. Before we talk about the story, I want to emphasize that I don’t think you have to sell everything you own and give it to the poor in order to have favor with Jesus. I believe the point of this story is a much simpler truth: Jesus knew the man cared more about his earthly possessions than he did about following Jesus, and the only way to get him to see this was to offer a dramatic challenge.

The Box Elder Tabernacle is located on what was previously known as “Sagebrush Hill.” this site was designated by Brigham Young during a visit to the area. The cornerstones were laid by President Young and Territorial Surveyor Jesse W. Fox.Construction began in 1868 and was completed and dedicated in October / 1890. The bulding was gutted by fire on February 9, 1896 and was quickly rebuilt and rededicated on March 21, 1897. The Church closed the Tabernacle down in 1986-87 for major restoration. The building was reopened and rededicated in April 1987. It is still used for LDS conferences, concerts and other meetings. In 1971, * it was listed on the National Register of Historical Places, one of the first buildings in Utah to be so honored*. The Box Elder Tabernacle is located at 251 South Main. Guided tours of the building are offered free of charge during the summer months. / taken Brigham City summer 2009 /
