Macro shot of a hover fly perched on a leaf

“What big eyes you have” I said to the Dragonfly. / “All the better to see you with” it replied, “so you had better take that camera out of my face or I will buzz off.”
I photographed this Dragonfly while I was out with my sister, taking photos of nature with her. It reminds me of a special moment in time we spent together! This dragonfly kept hovering over us and finally landed. Made for a perfect photo opportunity. This beautiful dragonfly actually spent the night in my front yard, providing me with a great opportunity to photograph it. The next morning it was still there and then suddenly it took off. Of course, I said thank you and wished it well.
Coccinella septempunctata, the seven-spot ladybird (or, in North America, seven-spotted ladybug or seven-spotted lady beetle), is the most common ladybird in Europe. Its elytra are of a red colour, but punctuated with three black spots each, with one further spot being spread over the junction of the two, making a total of seven spots. (wikipedia.org)
best viewd large amazing details…
Preparing for a date i assume :-)

I was taking photos of lightning, and when this bolt of lightning struck behind the tree, I thought the photo was one to delete… Until I looked at it on my computer! The flash of lightning was bright enough to produce a silhouette of a bat that was flying by, and was quick enough to freeze the motion of the bat. Photo taken in Lutz, Florida
I captured these mating flies in the backyard this afternoon. After snapping a few pix, they would fly away, still attached to each other and land in a new spot. I”m not sure which spot I liked best ,so I am posting Mating Flies (1), (2), & (3). Which one do you like best ?

A bumble bee in my garden. There seems to be lots of them this year for some reason! Nikon D200, Nikkor 105mm
Back watching the ladybirds from Mt Burr again today. As the sun finally came out after days of crisp cold and rain they began to move about, climb and eventually take off for places unknown. Watching them today I couldn’t help but think of how many lessons they could teach. This one showed me that sometimes the highest mountain we actually have to climb is to get out of the rut we’re in. Time to sprout my wings…... What amazing creatures they are! Canon 400D 18-55 with two stage extension tubes. Processed in photoshop CS3.
In a never-before attempted stunt, this daredevil hoverfly leaps from the top of a backyard maple tree, and without using his wings for adjustments, nails the perfect bulls eye landing ! (Windsor, CT)
There’s a message in this for all of us. When you reach some peak in your life you can either go back down or simply spread your wings and take a leap of faith. This little fella took off moments after I got this shot. One of the Mount Burr ladybirds from an early shoot with flowers from our garden in the background. My husband and I were hiking one of the many trails in Mankato Mn, when these two flew in and landed at the base of a tree.
A super macro of a fly sitting on one of the last living cosmos in my garden. I was thrilled that he let me get so close and showed off his green back in the sun. / Canon 500D / Sigma EX DG 70mm Macro / Airdrie, Alberta
