A macro shot of a hover fly in mid flight as it approaches a flower
“What big eyes you have” I said to the Dragonfly. / “All the better to see you with” it replied, “so you had better take that camera out of my face or I will buzz off.”
title says it all.
This beautiful dragonfly actually spent the night in my front yard, providing me with a great opportunity to photograph it. The next morning it was still there and then suddenly it took off. Of course, I said thank you and wished it well.
Coccinella septempunctata, the seven-spot ladybird (or, in North America, seven-spotted ladybug or seven-spotted lady beetle), is the most common ladybird in Europe. Its elytra are of a red colour, but punctuated with three black spots each, with one further spot being spread over the junction of the two, making a total of seven spots. (wikipedia.org)
Leopard Lacewing Butterfly.

Well this was a first for me, not sure what to say outside, A BLUE BUG, weird. Looked like a Hover Fly but it’s backside was black and blue…. again, this is a first for me, it flew the same way as a Hover Fly, didn’t stay very long so I took a few shots but that’s about it. / Cheers / Better full screen / Canon Xt with my Sigma 105 Macro 2.8 Ex
I took this photo this past summer when my daughter and I had her Bugville Butterfly pop-up treehouse. We had put fresh flowers in the bottom, and sprayed them with sugar water. This is a painted lady butterfly; and yes, to ease all your hearts they were let go after they matured! Thanks for viewing my work!!! Damselflies… Photo taken in Omaha, NE Azure Damselfly Widespread and common. Adults can be seen between May and August according to locality. Similar in habits and distribution to its close relative C. pulchellum. C. puella is less common than it on cutover bogs and mesotrophic lakes, but more common on eutrophic sites. A lowland species avoiding exposed and upland sites, as well as all but the slowest flowing rivers. The male Azure Damselfly is similar to the Variable Damselfly Coenagrion pulchellum and the Common Blue Damselfly Enallagma cyathigerum but can be distinguished by the characteristic black U-shaped marking which does not join up with the black ring at the posterior end of the second abdominal segment. In the female Azure damselfly there are two colour forms, blue and green. The blue form is similar to the female of the Variable Damselfly Coenagrion pulchellum but can best be distinguished by examining the shape of the pronotum. It can be distinguished from females of the Common Blue Damselfly Enallagma cyathigerum by the absence of a spine below the 8th abdominal segment. KEY IDENTIFICATION FEATURES In males there is a characteristic black U-shaped mark on the second abdominal segment which is separate from the black ring at the bottom of the segment In segments 4-6 there is more blue/less black in comparison with Coenagrion pulchellum In males the blue dorsal thoracic stripes are always complete and only slightly waisted The hind margin of the pronotum is broad and flattened (see comparison of pronotums of blue damselflies) Females are best identified by examining the shape of the posterior lobe of the pronotum In females there are two black stripes on the side of the thorax There is no spine below the 8th abdominal segment
I so wanted to swat this damn insect with my shoe!! Just to keep it still for a moment!! I spent the better part of an hour following this gorgeous dragon around – as I’d focus and check the composition, he’d fly off. Well I finally got 3 decent pics!! As is. Nikon D80 / Nikkor 105 AF-S VR Micro / f/13; 1/60; ISO 100; On Camera – Flash on TTL (to freeze any movement and to get a catchlight). And another one I got:
