  • In the recent years, Buddhism has made a large impact to many. From the belief to the practising of yoga to the images and decor of Buddha himself, in one way or another we tend to include him in our lives. His feet – in practice – is kissed for his blessings and to show respect. Taken in Sukothai, Thailand on 19 September 2004 – where I found serenity and content.

  • This is the same photo of the buddha in the tree from Wat Mahathat in Ayutthaya Thailand but some people prefer it with more vignetting :O) You can check out the original in my art section…

  • The great thing about this photo is that you can go for the natural http://www.redbubble.com/people/khosie/art/133430-enlightenment or the souped up view that is here.. If I was an up myself photographer I would say the image was completely intentional… ;op Because I can’t lie to save myself…. :o) Here are the facts. I have had Photoshop for 2 days. I have had a 20 minute lesson in photoshop and I bought a magazine that gave some tips on photoshop. (And not right may I suggest… can’t believe I am a novice and I worked out that they hadn’t given the right instructions!!) So yes, for all you gurus out there you will have a good giggle. For all the novices, you will understand my joy at turning out this pic!! Ayutthaya… as per the other pics in my portfolio… can categorically say I am not re-inventing the wheel here… saw something similar like this on a postcard and loved it! So grab the kindness in your soul and please feel free to mockingly praise my naive enjoyment of having managed to do something in Photoshop!!! Sometimes photography is about ego… this time it’s just about feeling bloody pleased that I got past File… Open!!!

  • Carved face of Buddha in a tree – Thailand

  • A giant Buddha in a wat in the northeastern Thai village of Mae Sot

  • Originally cloistered, in what must have been a spectacular temple complex, this row of Buddhas has been restored and the faithful have draped them in bright orange cloaks. This is about half the row and is at Wat Yai Chai Mongkol in Ayuthaya. Sold as a mounted print – May, 2009. Thank you to the buyer. Featured in Religious Art And Photography group / Featured in Art In Asia group – 9th November, 2009 / Feature in True Colors of Asia – 14th November, 2009

  • I don’t know how old these are but the site, where they are, dates back many hundreds of years. This is taken at Sukhothai, an ancient ruined city in Northern Thailand.

  • Near where I live, there is a not often visited temple which has the most beautiful statuary. Set on a hill, overlooking the town, it is a steep climb to the top but well worth it. I’m told that the temple itself has beautiful murals. As, each time I have been there, it is locked up, I have not yet had the opportunity to explore inside. / This Buddha is quite large and rests next to a pool. Hopefully one day I will get to take an image with a beautiful reflection also. Have sold as a mounted print. Thanks whoever purchased !

  • “Young Buddhist” was featured in the group People and Portraiture

  • Within a temple in Chiang Mai, I have found this little place where the monks burnt encence and placed little golden buddhas, aligned. ~I was fascinated by how they got even the wax to match their robes. even a small arrangement is very carefully thought out….

  • Thai Buddha’s in the ancient city of Ayutthaya, Thailand.

  • wat mahathat – ayutthaya, thailand

  • The Siamese had a few tales on how the head ended up here. One, the Burmese-Siamese civil war damaged the ancient statues. Two, the French had cut off all Buddha heads when they conquered in the late 1600s. Three, burglars had tried to steal the head but it was too heavy so they gave up and left it. And last (but not least), burglars had tried to steal the head to sell at lucrative prices but were chased by guards. To hide the head they left it in the woods. Whichever tale you believe, years upon years tree roots had overgrown the head – as if protecting it from bad intentions. / This picture was taken in the second ancient city, Ayutthya, Thailand.

  • Taken in Ayutthaya, Thailand. I was interested in all of the offerings that were left at all of the different Buddha images I visited in Thailand and what significance or meaning they had to the person that had left them there. And I loved the contrast of the delicate flower on the hard rough concrete.

  • Shot this in the grounds of the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok, Thailand. What a great place to shoot. Chosen to do HDR on three exposures as it gives the image a bit of a mystical feel. Many of the Buddhist statues elicit a kind of fear in the believer. In this case in the face of the “temple guard”. The dark ominous sky in the background seemed to accentuate this mood. • This is one of those things that words cannot begin to describe. This particular Buddha statue is located at Wat Pho in Bangkok, Thailand. This imposing Buddha is 50 feet high and 150 feet long and made from brick and plaster and gilded in gold. The reclining pose represents the Buddha’s passage into nirvana. His feet are of mother of pearl inlays with 108 vignettes representing the 108 auspicious signs for recognizing buddha.

  • Wat Si Chum, the Temple of the Bodhi tree, is a 13th century temple in the Sukhothai Historical Park, Sukhothai, Thailand. The buddha image, Phra Achana, is covered in stucco and is seated inside a square brick Mandala building with a tapering wall structure which opens in the center of the top. The roof of the mondop has disintegrated, exposing the enormous seated stucco Buddha image over 11 metres in width.
