Found this one growing roadside while hiking my usual road routes near home.. When it bloomed it was not as lovely as I found it to be in bud form.. Species.. I dont know.. :) Letter w ~ Alphabet Soup.. Nikon D60
I love the different textures and colors this little bud had… it has the same colors as a peacock feather! This was taken with a sigma 105mm macro lens, the bud was tiny about the size of my pinky nail.

My photograph with some touches of digital painting applied to accentuate the extended petals & Bud… Common facts: / The genus is widely distributed throughout the north temperate zone. Their habitats are considerably varied, ranging from cold and montane regions to the grassy slopes, meadowlands and riverbanks of Europe, the Middle East and northern Africa, Asia and across North America. Irises are perennial herbs, growing from creeping rhizomes (rhizomatous irises), or, in drier climates, from bulbs (bulbous irises). They have long, erect flowering stems, which may be simple or branched, solid or hollow, and flattened or have a circular cross-section. I am hoping to see my brother on Christmas and armed once again with my camera I shall seek the intense colors of Kauai. We shall see. fingers crossed. I wanted to feel good so I went through my photos from Kauai and found this one. I am amazed by the Bird of Paradise, always have been.
