This is a photo that we took while on a rural route to find some farms for some barn shots and this Blue Heron flew past us, so we followed it. He was a little curious about us. But did not seem to mind to be photographed.

The Keith-Albee was named after the Keith-Albee-Orpheum Corporation, one of the leading vaudeville performance chains at that time, to convince the directors of Keith-Albee-Orpheum to make the Keith-Albee a regular stop. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Huntington Downtown Historical District, and is currently being restored as a performing arts center. The Keith-Albee opened on May 8, 1928. The theatre was constructed by the talented architect Thomas W. Lamb. At that time, it was second in size in the United States to the Roxy Theatre in New York City. At first, the theatre offered vaudeville acts with local performers of A.B. and S.J. Hyman. The theatre survived a major flood in 1937. NIKON D60 18-55 mm NIKON NIKOR VR LENS

This tiny white bloom was one of several that appeared in my garden this year. Nestled among common blue flax, I almost did not see it. I was so surprised to see that the back side of the petals are green! Since I have no name for this unexpected little beauty, I chose niveus et viridis as the title which are the Latin words for white and green. The baby Nyala gave me one last before going to mom. / These are beautiful gentle creatures, with sweet gentle natures. Hunting of deer should be banned completely. We have so little natural wildlife left and we should protect it with all our might, so that generations to come may oneday hold out their hand and experience the beauty of a baby Nyala approaching with innocence and love. It is upsetting that such beautiful creatures are still being hunted by egotistical people and for what purpose, when the weapons they have cannot possibly make them brave hunters, braggarts maybe. I want our children and grandchildren to know the beauty of nature, all of it.

Species lilies are wild lilies. Native lilies occur in North America, Europe, and especially Asia…Japan, China, Burma, & India. It is from these wild lilies that breeders have created their magnificent hybrids for our gardens. Species lilies oftentimes possess a delicate charm that appeals to many people, and many of the species make fine garden plants…while others are a real challenge to grow. The genus Lilium are herbaceous flowering plants growing from bulbs. They comprise a genus of about 110 species in the lily family, Liliaceae. They are important as large showy flowering garden plants. They are important culturally and in literature in much of the world. Some species are sometimes grown or harvested for the edible bulbs. The species in this genus are the true lilies. Many other plants exist with “lily” in the common English name, some of which are quite unrelated to the true lilies. Pi Kappa Alpha was founded on Sunday evening, March 1, 1868 at the University of Virginia, beginning a great tradition of excellence. The Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity strives to develop scholarship, leadership, community involvement, high ethical values, and most of all, brotherhood among its members. Pi Kappa Alpha includes 212 chapters and colonies throughout the United States and Canada. Pi Kappa Alpha has been ranked #1 or #2 in an independent survey for the past twelve years among all the other chapters in the U.S., Pi Kappa Alpha has also pledged and initiated more members in 1995-96 and 1996-97 than any other fraternity in the U.S. This Marshall University fraternity house was shut down in August of 2008 for burning furniture in the front yard of the house. Established in 1925, Ely’s Mill is family owned and operated. Built by Andrew Jefferson Ely, Ely’s Mill now offers a unique craft and antique shop. A. J. Ely, known as “Old Man Ely,” was a Yale law school graduate, a practicing Tennessee lawyer and a printer. Disenchanted with city life after the death of his wife, he bought a 30 acre tract in an effort to live a healthy life. He preached against smoking and strong drink - coffee, tea, alcohol - along with the evils of various foods, including milk, salt, white bread, and “store bought” food. He advocated eating fresh vegetables, honey, bananas, buttermilk and lots of spring water. For years, the old Lines Bakery made a special bread from his flour. There was no subject he felt lukewarm about; politics, taxes, marriage, youth, religion, and other topics. It’s been told that if he liked you he’d talk with your for hours, but if he didn’t approve of you, he’d take the whole afternoon off just to tell you so. Ely hired local craftsmen to build the mill and showroom to display their ware. Initially called The Water Wheel Craft Shop, the mill featured weaving and local crafts and also made solid wood furniture and sold antiques. The water wheel powered the machinery in the Furniture Shop – belt sanders – lathes, planers – by a system of pulleys and belts. The wheel itself is almost 30 feet in diameter and 8 feet wide. It was supplied with water from a race which came over the top of the buildings and begin 800 feet upstream. As the place grew, more buildings were added: barns for livestock, sheds and chicken houses. A caretaker family lived here also to help tend the garden, keep bees and manage the animals and grounds. A hammer mill was built to crush and mix feeds. A blacksmith shop was added to repair tools and make parts. When the building was completed in the 1940’s Ely’s Mill had grown to almost twenty buildings. NIKON D60 18-55 Nikor VR lens / FEATURED IN ALL WATER IN MOTION AUG 2009 /
Roaring Fork is a stream in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, located in the Southeastern United States. Once the site of a small Appalachian community, today the stream’s area is home to the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail and the Roaring Fork Historic District. Like many mountain streams, Roaring Fork is notoriously volatile. While the stream presents as a peaceful trickle on any given day, it quickly becomes a raging whitewater rapid after a mild rain shower. The “roar” of the water is amplified by its echo on surrounding mountain ridges.
