A thousand Yellowstone wonders are calling, ‘Look up and down and round about you! John Muir – 1898 The temperatures were in the single digits on this cold, snowy January morning at West Thumb Geyser Basin, which is one of the smallest geyser basins in Yellowstone. A incredibly scenic area along the shore of Yellowstone Lake, West Thumb only has a small amount of geyser activity. However, the basin more than makes up for it with its diversity. Despite its small size, it has paint/mud pots, hot springs, pools, lake shore geysers, and fumaroles. Fumaroles are small openings that release steam and other gasses. You can see in the foreground the muddy, soupy waters inundating the paint pots. The white area beyond the tree line in the right hand side of the photograph is Yellowstone Lake. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Please don’t copy or download this image. This gorgeous White Tail Deer is taking a chance that the only thing in my hand is a camera. Deer season opened last week and this is an easy and wanted shot for me or a hunter. It’s very rare to get this close, at this time of year, but this young buck was very curious.

The Golden Gate Bridge was barely visible in this dense morning fog. From a cliff overlooking the bay, the pillar was visible as well as a misty outline of the San Francisco skyline. Built in 1933, the bridge was completed 5 years later in 1937. It is a part of US Highway 101 and State Route 1, and is the only road to exit San Francisco to the north. A bit of trivia: The suspension bridge is 8,981 feet in length and is 200+ feet above the water. It has a total of approximately 1.2 million rivets holding it together. I took this shot at the Virginia Safari Park in Natural Bridge, Virginia. They have a 180 acre area where you can drive through, with all sorts of animals that roam around free. The Black Buck Antelope is naturally found in the semi desert plains and the open forests throughout India. Males stand about 32 inches at the shoulder and weight about 90 pounds, and can reach speeds of about 45 mph. This guy just wanted a nice rest. The mule deer congregate in our area for the rut as we are on a sparsely populated butte. The afternoon light provides a rich frame to set off their stunning strength and beauty, and the fading fall colors provide a soft counterpoint. The baby Nyala turned 3 days old yesterday. He stood about 15 feet away from me. The mother left and hid behind the bushes, but he stayed and looked at me. I went down on my knees, so as not to frighten him. As I started to take a photo of him, he turned and started running towards me and that just finished me. I was absolutely stunned. I dropped the camera into my lap and reached out my hand towards him. It was so awesome to have this beautiful little creature sniffing my hand, before going to look for his mom. After he had walked away from me, he still kept looking at me. / Next to the birth of my daughter, this was an experience I had wished for all my life. / How trusting, innocent and beautiful. It is the way it should be between man and animals. “I’m 3 days Old” was featured in The Scavenger Hunt on / 8 Jun 2009 “I’m 3 days Old” was featured in PEACE, LOVE & TRANQUILITY on 8 Jun 2009
Early Autumn and morning mist add to the quiet and softness of this scene. A young buck has come to drink and enjoy the quiet, but he has heard a sound behind him and so is on the alert for who or what may come through the mist, could be someone else looking for the same thing or it could be something more! Original image taken at Rogue Elk Park with HDR effects added with Dynamic Photo. Using Photoshop layers, the Image was then filtered thru Dreamy Photo. The Buck was added as a composite, lighting effects added using render then lighting effects.
