  • Birthday Contest!!! I Wanna Buy YOUR Design!!!!!

Today is the love of my life’s birthday!!! He is turning 30 years old!!! To help celebrate, I have decided to buy him some t-shirts – one of my own and one from another lucky Red Bubblian. So, without further adieu, I present the Greg’s Birthday Contest!!!!!! From now until October 1st anyone can submit a t-shirt design to this contest by adding a comment below. Here are the rules: The design must be on a t-shirt. The design should be tagged with GregBday08 (please tag your work if you want to have it considered, because we will be using this tag to browse the entries). You should place a link to your work in the comments section below. A simple link will do, but a photo link will be even better (brownie points!). There are no requirements for theme, style, or color (just make sure it follows standard Red Bubble Guidelines). You may want to read the below, short list of his likes to get an idea of things that will catch our eyes. Designs should be your original work and all sources should be cited appropriately. If it is one thing I abhor, it is designers who use images or other material from the internet and then do not give proper credit. So, please give credit where credit is due. That is all we ask. <—This is Greg. Some of Greg’s likes: dragons, science fiction, fantasy, witches & wizards, video games, board games, astrology, sodoku, chocolate, music, food, sushi, cocktails, traveling, road trips, computers, technology, coffee, hot chocolate, baking, cooking, robots, anything mechanical, the paranormal, mysteries, Halloween, sarcasm/wit, humor, and books. Favorite colors: blue, gray, black, beige, brown, green, silver. How it will work: On October 1st, I will announce that the contest is closed for entries. On October 2nd, Greg and I will log on to Red Bubble and do a search of the tag GregBday08 and we will browse through ALL the entries and add the finalists to my favorites list. On October 3rd, we will announce the winner via a journal posting and buy the winning design. After we receive the design, Greg will wear it for pictures and the pictures will be added to the buyer’s booth and to a special journal along with an interview promoting the winning designer. The winning design will also be featured in The Amazing Little Pieces of Awesomeness Gallery (formerly the B.Christopher Designs Virtual Gallery) and in my Monthly Addictions Showcase for October 2008. So, not only will I buy the t-shirt, but I will promote the hell out of it as well! This is a fantastic opportunity, IMHO, and a great way to celebrate my partner’s b-day!!!! So, get cracking on submitting those designs!!! If your design is already in my favorites, you can still submit it – it just means you have one up on the competition but no guarantees. LOL! Good luck to everyone and all. Cheers! ~ Brian (bchris) :o) P.S. I may not be on here until tomorrow cause now I have to go to the party. P.P.S. I am submitting this to all of my groups because this covers a lot of area and I hope most group hosts would love their members to get in on the action! NOTE: I added a few more likes to the list. Tee-hee… =] / Sep. 28th UPDATE: WOW!!!! I want to thank all those who have entered so far!!! Such great designs!!! Yes, you can submit more than one design. There is NO limit to the number of designs you can submit! Yay!!! Greg saw the post briefly before going to bed last night and was so touched by all of your comments! Thank you so much! :) / October 1st UPDATE: Thank you to all who have taken the time to enter this little contest of ours, we are so thrilled and excited by all the entries!!! Today is the final day and at midnight (Pacific Time – that is like 10 1/2 hours from now) we will end the contest and start going through the entries. I have already commented on some of the entries and have not had time to comment on all the latest entries because this week is full of family birthdays for us. Last night was my cousins bday and today is another cousins bday…phew…!!!! LOL! So, tonight is the finale and tomorrow the selection process begins! I cannot wait! I have a feeling there will be some exciting news on the 3rd, when we announce the winner! :) / October 2nd Update: The contest is “officially” closed. Sorry I was not here to close it right at midnight, but I was out late last night taking some of my cousins from Wales to Knott’s Scary Farm and celebrating birthdays. Two of them are leaving today, so it has been hectic to say the least. But, never fear, we will be selecting the finalists. Right now!!!!! So if your design gets favorited in the next few minutes, it is a finalist. I will also be writing a journal entry regarding the finalists after they have all been selected. Thanks again to everyone – all the designs are amazing! You can view ALL the finalists here. :)

Challenge Winner for my Valentines Day Card in the Cards Best of your Best Challenge THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU TO ALL THE WONDERFUL BUBBLERS WHO LIKED MY DESIGN!!!! AND TO EVERYBODY FOR THEIR SUPPORT, KIND WORDS AND TIME. YOU’RE THE GREATEST!!! This kind of support helps to suppress those feelings of lingering doubt (that I know we all feel as artists at times). It truly means the world – thank you. I’m just sooo over the moon. I’m really enjoying digital art but have so far focused on doing all my work on photoshop because I feel so comfortable with the software. But the support I’ve been shown for my works (Froggy incl. ) has honestly convinced me to focus more on learning new techniques and other design software. Look out Illustrator… here I come!!! :) /

/ Greg’s Birthday Contest 2008 Winners!!! It was a very hard, tough, extremely painful decision to choose a winner for this contest. In fact, so difficult, that we decided to have multiple winners!! Yay! We narrowed it down to THREE (3) choices – so three designers will receive the prize pack mentioned in the previous JE. We would like to send out big bear hugs and lots of thanks to all of the fabulous designers who submitted designs to the competition. It was so much fun and definitely exciting! We sincerely wish we could buy them all today, but, then that would not be very competitive. But I have plenty of birthdays to shop for in the next few months AND Christmas is a’ coming…so I will definitely have my eyes on these designs!!! I also want to send out a personal thanks to jemimalovesbigted who submitted her fabulous Closet Wear t-shirt (that she originally created especially for me). I love this design so much that I told Greg that it is mine…not his. Hahahahaha! So, he wants to buy it for me soon. (We don’t do the whole matchyy-matchy thing, so it is either one or the other and I am claiming this fabulousness, tee-hee) :) But, I digress… enough small talk. I bet you all wanna know who the winners are?!? Am I right? Well, then, someone hand me the freakin’ envelope please!!!! Drum roll… / So, without further adieu, the winners are (in random order): Wish… by thickblackoutline Road Trip by Patricia Anne McCarty Mystic Tree by Crockpot All of these designers are winners of the following prize pack: I will purchase your design on a t-shirt and Greg will model your t-shirt for a photo shoot that will be uploaded and promoted in the Buyer’s Booth and in a special journal entry by yours truly. The winning designers will be interviewed for said journal entry and featured alongside their winning design. The winning designs will also be featured in The Amazing Little Pieces of Awesomeness Gallery (formerly the B.Christopher Designs Virtual Gallery) and in my Monthly Addictions Showcase for October 2008. All designs will be purchased on Sunday, October 5, 2008. Designers, please check your bmails by the end of the week for instructions on completing the winner’s interview for inclusion with your winning design feature. And, as soon as the t-shirts arrive we will do the photo shoot!!! OMG, this is so EXCITING!!!!!! / BUT WAIT… THERE IS MORE… We know it is not part of the contest, but we will also be purchasing two card designs from the finalist list. With every birthday present, you need a card. Right? These two artists’ t-shirt designs are also card designs (as well as finalists), so they will be purchased and featured along with the winning designs. And they are… the robot and the turnip by Tashana Kjelland ‘A Night on the Town’ poster by Patricia Anne McCarty / Thanks again to all the fabulous designers for your wonderful talent!! See you all again for Greg’s Birthday Contest 2009!!! :) Bear hugs all around, xoxoxo… Brian and Greg :) p.s. I am once again submitting this to all the same groups that approved the first two journals, as an update. My many thanks to all the wonderful hosts who have allowed us to add this journal to your outstanding groups!!!! :)

I have finally got around to posting a journal entry here on RedBubble, you may already have seen my posts on my myspace page and also on the news page at my website. Been busy busy busy… I am really excited about RedBubble – it’s a fantastic opportunity for Australian artists etc, with great exposure and support. One thing I would dearly love feedback on is how people are promoting themselves in order to sell their work – as a poor struggling artist (one of many!) I could really use the sideline income. I have a few design projects underway at the moment, which has kept me away from my illustration work – but there I’m starting some new pieces soon – so keep an eye out. I’ve just completed a revised version of the OhOhChaos gig poster I did for a guy in Belgium – which I will post for sale, I love the typography…There will also be a small copy of my submission to Daydream magazine in the UK – with the theme Left or Right – I found a little pearler of a quote which I was inspired by. I’m hoping also to post some images of a CD design I am working on for a one-man-band in Scotland – it won’t be for sale obviously, but you’ll be able to buy the CD I’m sure. I’m hoping to get really underway with my illustration – so I can hear from everyone about their thoughts and reactions! I’ll be putting together a little promo with them to send around the studios and magazines in an attempt to bring in some work. / Has been tough lately, which I’m sure many people can relate to, no food, no rent, blah blah blah – but its slowly starting to come together now. Fingers crossed! I’d love to hear what everyone thinks of my work – I’ll be searching around checking out what I’ve missed since my last sojurn in the bubble. If you have an tip and hints on selling I’d love to hear it! Cheers, / Jordan

Yay!!!!!! Well, it took a long while to decide (because there were so many fantastic entries) but we got it narrowed down to 18 lucky finalists!!!!! And, here they are (you can click the image to make it larger): If your design was recently favorited by me, then you are an instant finalist! You can view them all here, as well (the entire first page of my favorites as of 10/02/08). Congratulations to all the finalists! You have made it super-difficult to decide! / Now, there is good news and there is bad news… / First, the GOOD news… You all have made it so difficult on us! Geesh! We will be purchasing more than one design!!!! That means that there will be multiple winners!!! All winning designs will receive the same prizes as scheduled in the first announcement. The prizes are: I will purchase your design on a t-shirt and Greg will model your t-shirt for a photo shoot that will be uploaded and promoted in the Buyer’s Booth and in a special journal entry by yours truly. We will be announcing the winners tomorrow, October 3, 2008. / And now, the Bad News… There are two crucial pieces of bad news. The first is that we will not be revealing just how many winners will be chosen until tomorrow. So, that number is being kept under wraps. It will definitely be more than one, though. The other piece of bad news is that, because we will be selecting more than one winner, we will be purchasing the entire lot of winning designs on Sunday, October 5th (two days after the date we had originally intended to purchase the winning design). We are sure two days is a small price to pay for multiple winners. :) Again, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE BIRTHDAY WISHES & ALL THE GREAT DESIGNS! YOU ALL WENT WAY ABOVE AND BEYOND AND HAVE MADE THIS A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE!!!!! MUCH LOVE TO YOU ALL!!!! xoxoxo… ~ Brian and Greg :) p.s. Sorry for placing part of the above all in caps but I am so thrilled that I wanted to express it in a giant way. tee-hee. ;P p.p.s. I am submitting this to all the same groups that approved the first journal, as an update. My many thanks to all the wonderful hosts who have allowed us to add this journal to your outstanding groups!!!! :)

Hi all. I recently received some redbubble stuff that I ordered for Christmas. One was a self designed t-shirt >for me, and the other a calendar, > a gift. The calendar itself, as redbubble product is great. stylish, well packed and well done. The actually prints were as seen on screen. Unfortunately, as deceived by the back light of the computer screen, they looked brighter there, then when printed. I found myself disappointed. The t-shirt was disappointing for a couple of reasons. Again-quality, fine! When I ordered it, I ordered a print I thought I liked. Since ordering, I did something better. From previous experience, I thought what was on screen at the time of printing, not ordering, was what you got. So, I changed the image, hoping I would get that instead of what was there when I ordered. (are you with me?) Alas, I learnt-it is what is on screen at the time of ordering that gets printed. Again-this is probably a good thing of redbubbles-what if an artist deletes, or changes an order unbenounced ( that is a word, I swear!) to the purchaser? ( I could’ve tried contacting RB..I thought they’d be way too busy w chrissy) upon trying on this alternate image-I also noted the design must be catered for women-mine is strategically in the wrong place ie more in the middle of the t rather than up high. (I’m so embarassed, I can’t wear it). Very unflattering. So I learnt a few things -make sure what you order is exactly as you like it. (duh) / -artists, make things a little brighter to keep the colour nice / -t-shirt designers-ensure your image is a little higher than you think…perhaps even measure on yourself to get the centre of the design ‘above the nipple line’! _______ on that note, I was very nervous to deliver an order of 4 t-shirts. (they didn’t trust the internet!) please god, like them, let them be awesome! ...and they are! the parents are very happy their boys will be dressed in t-shirts for their life to come (small in mens is HUGE!) and I am very very relieved.

  • Stealing Your Artwork

When I started creating my artwork many, many people told me that my designs would make great tattoos. They still do. Although I am investigating the possiblities of creating what is called ‘flash art’ for commercial application of my art, one question seemed to haunt the back of my mind. Would/ could someone just download my work and use it anyway? If an individual wanted to do such a thing, as has been the case, and asked….. sure; the asking permisson was appreciated. But my concern was the tattoo artist themselves using my creations in their work making profits off of my creations. Red Bubble is trustworthy enough, but what about the individual with an ink gun and no scruples? I recently had the good fortune to receive a bubblemail from a commercial artist here at the bubble who knew exactly what I was asking. He took the time to respond in a most thorough way and I got his permisson to copy/past part of his answer in my journal. It is MOST REVELANT to all of us here at rb and I wanted to share it with all who might be having the same questions…...... This is just a risk we all take. It happens, and I know several friends who have had their art used by someone else against their copywrite, but there’s little you can do apart from being careful who gets high-res versions of your work. In the case of Redbubble for example, they have a clear policy and privacy agreement when you join that states when and how they will use your work, but other sites don’t have such a agreement that they adhere to. So just read the Ts and C’s before you upload any works, be it to an image hosting site or a online gallery such as Redbubble. The low res versions on display in the galleries are of too low a resolution to be used on anything other than the internet. People who would steal works from your gallery can’t really offer it in the kind of detailed high res quality that Redbubble reserve for printing purposes only. If you come across your work being displayed on a website without your permission, then simply e-mail the webmast and ask that it be removed. Usually they are agreeable to this as they don’t want to get into trouble. After all , they don’t know if you have a high priced lawyer or not. A better idea though, would be to offer them an alternative, such as they can display your work on the condition that your ownership of copywrite be clearly displayed and a link back to your redbubble gallery be made available so that people can buy prints, etc, if they like your work. There’s no 100% way to prevent this kind of thing from taking place, so you can expect some theft of your work at some time. This is a reality that artists of all kinds, be it musicians, visial artists, film makers, or any other type of art, have to face. Hope this helps. Cheers

So I’ve been selling a few t-shirts and am stoked on the fact that RedBubble is doing it’s thing and making everyone an extra dollar or two, whilst showering the world with artistic love in the form of t-shirts (in my case thusfar). I decided to venture from RedBubble and submit one of my t-shirt designs to Threadless for some voting love in the hope of getting printed, so if you are on Threadless then feel free to vote for my Ninja Love t-shirt design… and/or use the ultra-fancy banner options to hep me promote the design. Either way I’m stoked on the way things have been progressing on RedBubble and am grateful for all your support, stay creative!

  • The t-shirt revolution has begun. Some of RB’s best and brightest t-shirt designers have come together to start the revolution of awesome t-shirt designs (I sneaked around back and let myself in through an open window). The group, appropriately named A T-Shirt Revolution and hosted by some of RB’s greatest t-shirt gurus, is now accepting votes for its first challenge: Propaganda for the Revolution. The challenge is all about change, inspiration, and recruitment. The designers were asked to create a brand new design utilizing some form of propaganda or revolutionary symbolism that would encourage others to join the group. If you are reading this and have not had the chance to check out this group, you really should because there are some extraordinary designers over there who are beginning to enlighten people and change the face of t-shirt design on the bubble!! I know they have helped me to raise the bar in my own designs. Check out my latest (and challenge entry): There are 37 entries up for voting right now (mine is lucky #37) and I am just thrilled to be included amongst the great talent that is present there! So, I am not going to tell you to go and vote for mine per say. (I mean, if you digg it, then by all means!) Instead, it would be great if you hopped on over there and voted for you those designs that incite in you the need for change, the drive to be part of a revolution, and the emotion to join something that is going to make RB an even better site!!! And, for those of you who have not joined A T-Shirt Revolution yet, what are you waiting for? If you are a beginner, you owe it to yourself to learn from the best. If you are an established t-shirt designer, you owe it to yourself to join the revolution. And, if you are simply a fan, you are sure to find some great people and art over there!!! Get riveted! Get involved! Get creating! As Rosie the Riveter would say, “We can do it!!!”

Finally some of my new work is posted! Many creations are still in my portfolio waiting to be scanned, touched up, formatted, and uploaded. Whew! Sounds more complicated than it really is! Anyway…. I do worry a bit that some artists here might see my uploads as redundant, but I can’t find any other way to make the shirt color inversions work. Yes, the drawings are the same, but look terrible when the originals are on black shirts. The big white box makes them awkward and unprofessional. Thanks to a suggestion by another bubble member, I found a way to make them look better than the originals!!!! I just don’t want to violate rb etiquette and make a faux pas. lol It’s obvious that my t-shirt designs have more marketability if rb can offer them in multiple colors, but the look of the ones in black are so neat that I can’t ignore it. For this reason, it might appear I’ve loaded the same ones more than once. If this bothers anyone I apologize. Thanks kk
