Had the privilege this morning to witness an American White Egret at very close range (5-15ft) on the hunt for lizards…snaking it’s head when it spotted brunch hypnotizing the lizard just enough to get within striking range. This bird (they remind me they are today’s Raptors of prehistoric times) a very intelligent cunning predator. This bird was quit the hunter…within five minutes I followed & watched this bird capture and consume three out of four lizards it caught. The lucky one lizard was held at the tip of it’s peak and when the Egret tossed it up to swallow it the lizard captured the moment and kicked off from the peak to disappear in the foliage below. The bird went looking but with no success. This Raptor, I mean American White Egret has a very good batting average at least for today and I was honored to capture it on digital. / / /
Another pesky little Blue Tit in my tree this morning. Nobody’s going to prise that nut away from his claws! ;o) Canon EOS 50D with Canon EF 400mm L f/5.6 hand held
A silhouette of Sienna watching chippy steal our peanuts. A typical weekend morning at my back door. Our poor chocolate lab Sienna sits and watches the chipmunks and squirrels (looking through the glass patio door). I don’t know if Sienna loves weekends or if it’s TORTURE!!! Taken 8/31/08

Mrs. Redbird showed up at the annual Red Hat Society Brunch but was ousted because she didn’t have the standard purple dress. She was highly miffed, having shucked out a pretty penny for the best red hat money could buy for the occasion. Rumor has it Mrs. R’s going to break company with the other mademoiselles and start her own chapter. Interested parties may contact her at the local pub where she’s staging the revolt. P.S. Sometimes it’s fun to be silly! (Please View Larger to get a better look at Mrs. R’s red hat!)

The Sunday morning Brunch Bunch met on my patio and had a rollicking good time. Included among the guests were red finches, goldfinches, warblers, chickadees, sparrows, and a lone stranger of unidentifiable origins. Rumor has it the mystery gent could be a member of the illustrious Vireo family. The weather was balmy so quite a number of the ladies and gents went in for a dip in the pool. The well-attended event was covered by the press; with cameras clicking, it was the highlight on the Fall social calendar. A soiree is in the plans for the Christmas holidays. Photos forthcoming, weather permitting!
