A tribute to all those emigrants who leave their homeland in search of something better to offer their families back home. Who do several menial jobs to sustain themselves in miserable conditions and to sustain their families back home in even worse ones. Many of them sell these roses around the streets at night.

I thought Hurricane Gustav had annihilated my little rose bush when the storm knocked down big trees all around it. But when I went to the far corner of the back yard this morning, I was delighted to see the rose was making a comeback. This one bruised blossom is testimony to the hardiness of nature.
This is one of my favorite verses of Scripture: “A bruised reed he will not break and a dimly burning wick he will not quench.” I love it because it speaks of the Lord’s gentleness, his compassion, his empathy for the downtrodden and the hurting, and his willingness to care tenderly for them in their dark hour, especially when others may have abandoned them.
Borneo has magnificent sunsets, as you can see

It works like a charm. A fearful people are the easiest to govern. Their freedom and liberty can be taken away, and they can be convinced to believe that it was done for their own good – to give them security. They can be convinced to give up their liberty – voluntarily. Gene E. Franchini
we’re losing one another / you and i / fading day by day / in the fog of complacency / in the wake of miscommunication / budding excitement fades / with every assumption made / every “taken for granted” task / once insignificant / now deafening in its destructive strength / i watch us drift apart / grain by grain / like the tides separating the sea from the sands / i listen to the silent resentment / festering below the surface of what should be love / the current pulling me beneath the glassy mirror / of helplessness / drowning me in sorrow / suffocating me / rather than keeping me buoyant on life’s waves / once fun to jump / now just pounding wrath into the stormy eye of my heart / i feel our departure / soul to soul / heart to heart / fear creeping in more days than not / knowing this is how people lose one another / yet paralysed / and unable to stop it
