Spring was early that year, the weather was beautiful, I had a new camera and a new lens to play with. Reflection on the water, reflection on the past. Like many West Aussie families in the 70’s, we liked to picnic at Mussel Pool. I don’t remember the park in detail, but on a recent visit, a sense of familiarity rose. Memories of inky water, dancing light and children laughing. Our greatest adventures were in our minds, acted out on the grassy banks of the pool. This is a painting by my friend, Maria Hawthorne. / Maria has been painting occcaisionally since childhood, but has not painted for many years. It was painted at my suggestion, from the book of old sailing ship photos, which I am currently working from. A drifter and topsail schooner, lie in the mud in old Whitby. / The ruins of the priory are on the distant hill Watercolour 12”x8”.
