Imagine if this child could swap places with those on the other side of the wall. Even for a day. Imagine what he might find, what he might lose, what he might think. Imagine what he might do with his new-found privilege. Imagine. I imagine that’s what he’s imagining. The possibilities are endless.

I was in northern Rwanda in April 2007 as a volunteer with an aid group and we had stopped to talk with people at a local church. The town was Rhuengeri, it sits close to the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo and has the unfortunate reputation as having been home to a number of those who perpetrated the horrific genocide of 1994. / The atmosphere in Rwanda is one of pervading ‘brokeness.’ Millions of orphans live side by side with those who tortured and massacred their families 14 few, short years ago. Millions more suffer the newer enemy – HIV Aids and countless others wander ghost like in a state it seems of perpetual shock, haunted by the past and overwhelmed by the concept of a future. / This was April. The official month of mourning. When people publicly face what privately never leaves them. / I was sitting on a step tired and desperate for fresh air when I looked into the crowd that inevitably gathered wherever we were. / This woman, is by my guess perhaps 30 and she is as are most, dirt poor. / I was absolutely transfixed by her and her child. / She seemed to me to sum up so much of what I saw. / Love and desperation and yes, compassion. / Her breast is bone dry and cracked and yet she tries to feed her baby. Perhaps it is the hope inherent in the action which feeds her. / At the same time, she looks totally preoccupied by her struggle for survival. / What is she thinking as she gazes into the middle ground? / My thought is, ‘where is the next meal.’ Where will she get it from? How will she share it? And upon finishing it, where will she find the next one? / I was overwhelmed by seeing the reality of those who live literally from hour to hour, day after exhausting day. / It confronted me then. / It continues to confront me now. / – Dog photography – Africa photography / - Beach photography - Black & white photography – Dog photography – Africa photography / - Beach photography - Monotone photography
Yes, I’m still bored so here is my daughter’s eye done in the exact same way as my younger son’s ‘Opal’ Eye. Enjoy!
Friday August 3rd It happened again tonight. The old fool had left the door unlocked; and there, above the cages, some apparently empty and some housing pink-eyed rodents; stood the vessel containing the precious green liquid and marked with the words: “NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION” once more, at my disposal. Thanks to yesterday’s acquisition of a rather splendid pocketwatch, I have been able to establish that administration of about 2floz of the serum is sufficient to remain effective for approximately two hours. I have thus resolved that, weather permitting, tomorrow’s edification will begin with the short trip into town whereupon I will partake in what will no doubt be another fruitful bout of “shopping”, after which with any luck, there will be ample time for a spot of inexpensive dining followed by a close inspection of the ample figures belonging to those delightful ladies up there at Pedlar’s Lane bathhouse, whom I understand, usually prefer to keep themselves hidden away from prying eyes. Dash it… Awfully sorry ladies!
a drawing using pastels on canson paper that I never finished… / used photo reference from some magazine cosmetics ad, probably CoverGirl :) close-up /

June 26th How excited I am! Tomorrow is my birthday, and my sisters have told me that Papa will be arriving first thing, and that he has a very special treat in store for me. Naturally since learning of this, I have been at pains to discover what awaits me. Yet to my utter dismay, when I try to interrogate my sisters , they will only say that they are sworn to secrecy, then glance at one another and burst into infuriating giggles. I feel that if I am to succeed in my endeavour to extract the necessary information before morning, I must first get to each of them separately, then use all the cunning and ingenuity inherited from my beloved father. What springs immediately to mind, is to adopt the guile of one of Nature’s predators and pursue the weaker of the pack. Knowing as I do of Audrey’s great fondness for fruit bonbons, I shall arm myself with said items, and make my way to her bedchamber this very evening. Let us see how long her lips remain sealed when such delightful confection is offered in exchange for her secrets!
This vector portrait of a green eyed beauty is already a half year old but I managed to post it only now:) Hope you like it!

/ the real me / for the Happy Challenge – my happiness rating out of 10 points is 7.5 gradually inching my way up to 10 lol / / original pencil drawing (coloured in photoshop) / Yesterday I added “Spectrum 7.0” to red bubble but have since renamed it Inner Child as after I talked with you all and listened to your comments, the title seemed more appropriate. I just wasn’t so happy with “Inner Child”... i felt i must be able to do something better than that, and Paul McClintock’s brilliant portrait, inspired me so much, that i forgot to go shopping today, am still in my pj’s and pushed myself hard to produce something more professional and more worthy of the challenge. So here’s my new self portrait for the Happy Challenge in which you have to rate yourself on a scale from 1-10 (1 being seriously depressed, 10 being the happiest) and then create self-portrait expressing that state. Any artistic medium/technique is allowed. It’s called …..’as I am’ I drew this from a photograph I have from one of my avatars, i did what Paul said he did, worked from looking at it on the computer, and was able to create a better likeness this way, than from trying to draw myself ‘live’ in the mirror. I tell you what, it’s the scariest process for me to try, because i get so down if i stuff things up, and with a portrait there’s no room for really making a mess of it, you just have to get a likeness in there…. I am very very very proud of this… I am definitely a little plumper, but there is something very much me here…I hope you like it… The challenge doesn’t open for another 5 hours so get your pencils out everyone and start your portraits!! :) In the portrait I am wearing one of my favourite necklaces which is a glass disc with art by Frozenfa called Dear Pillow from her Silentcries gallery here on Red Bubble The Challenge is opens for entries soon. Voting starts in about 20 days.
