A photographic image created using Van Dyke Formula on cartridge paper. Unfortunately the text isn’t as strong on the original so I had to do some colour dodging on photoshop to make it the image I had intended. Apart of me loves the process but at the same time the constantly changing factors involved in the process can make creating the perfect image very frustrating to achieve. Cartridge paper becomes very delicate after all the washes and fixes it had to go through so I ended up with two images being utterly destroyed, one unharmed and this one with the rips and crumbles which became my favorite.

A classic Australian scene, depicting a deserted and decaying old wood and tinned roof shack, with the harsh but beautiful Australian bush as a backdrop. The fifth image in this series. Mr. House Sparrow ready for his bath House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) (Wikipedia ) Photo’s made in Planckendael zoo – Mechelen, Belgium / (yes, also the ‘ordinary’ local birds find the zoo an ideal territory, because of the availability of food! :) ) Photo made in uncomfortable squatted position, with hand held camera :roll: Endangered / House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) is on the IUCN Red List of endangered species. / Category & Criteria: Least Concern / In Flanders/Belgium where I took the photo, the species is on the red list as ‘declining’. / Main threats are the modern building styles (disappearance of nesting places under the roof-tiles), use of insecticides and agricultural developments (food crops like wheat and oats are less often cultivated, and the harvest methods have improved, so less is left for the birds…) / Efforts are being done to provide more nesting places (nest boxes) Photograph made with Pentax K10D camera. / Comments and feed-back always welcome.
